Duffy's Tavern
Our last few visits here ( a couple of years ago) left us disappointed . But we decided to try again, and are so glad we did! The restaurant interior seems to have been refreshed; we sat on the enclosed porch, which had a pleasant, warm ambience. There were several appealing new choices on the menu, plus the old favorites. My Faroe Island salmon with lemon risotto was fantastic! I hope they make it a regular menu offering, because I would love to have it again. Husband had the Duffy burger and curly fries, dependably tasty. Our server, Brett, was attentive, pleasant and professional. We look forward to returning. Try it again, if you haven't been there lately.
I'm really upset with this bar. It used to be amazing, The food the last 3 times has been God Awful .... I'm gonna leave my old post up..... just to show the way it used to be. And the bartender even told me before he charged me 44 dollars that they had an issue before me..... They should not have gotten rid of the staff they had before.. Just odd how fast it changed.......Love catching them on wing and fish and chip night, Can't complain about anything I've had there.. Really nice place. I just have a feeling some people have run out on their bill there. But the food is great, I will say this tavern is definitely worth a visit, you will wanna keep going back.
We stopped by Duffy’s for a drink, and I honestly have no idea how this place is still operating as a bar.
First off, the service was actually decent — our server was friendly and doing her best. But when we asked what bottled beer they had, she said they only have a few draft options. Weird, but okay. Then we asked about wine. Nope, none. Canned spritzers? None. Cider? One option that tasted like straight-up sugar.
Someone in our group got a local beer, and I ordered a vodka soda with lime — it came without lime because they were out. So, basically vodka and water. At a bar. No lime. No wine. No options. It’s like the place is allergic to having drinks.
I’ve been a regular at this bar and always appreciated the great management and especially the amazing Brazilian girl on the night staff — she’s a star. But I had a really disappointing experience recently during a Monday afternoon visit with a server named Paola. When the weather got hot, I was served a warm beer. I politely asked to exchange it, but Rosa was extremely rude. She refused to listen, walked away, and even told me I had no right to ask for a colder beer. It wasn’t about bar policy — it was about basic respect and customer service. I’ve never been treated like that here before, and it was really upsetting.
The bill was over $100, switching the beer and please the customer goes a long way, being rude just makes life and service harder, I was planning on staying for at least a couple more hours. Sad service for a great place.
I really want to support this neighborhood venue but they lack consistency and quality in their food . They also always seem to be short staffed when other restaurants are not. I have given this restaurant several chances but am done eating there or recommending to others until they get new management.
Cocktails were delicious, though several of the more attractive seasonal cocktails on the menu were not available. Appetizers were beautifully presented and tasty. Our favorite was the smoked salmon bruschetta. The crab soup was good… really a crab soup, no other flavors in there. My husband had a burger that he thoroughly enjoyed. We recommend the sweet potato fries. Though we were seated on the outer edge of the restaurant, despite it being completely empty when we arrived, it was nice and warm. I wish we had been seated by one of the fireplaces. Our server was terrific, offering helpful suggestions and sharing her pride in working there.
We had reservations at another restaurant nearby for our son's fiancees birthday and had some time to kill - so we decided to head over to Duffy's Tavern for a few drinks. It has been a stand-by of ours over the last few years even though it feels like its been around forever.
Back in the day it was such a dive-bar that I would never have gone to it - but it was renovated and really changed into quite a nice looking sports bar.
I had a Sommersby Apple Cider ($9.99), our soon had a Stiegl ($8.50) and my wife had a 16 oz glass of Duffy's Lager ($4.99 - a Saturday special price) , while our son's fiancee had a Long Island Ice Tea ($11.99).
I was very hungry so I ordered a poutine ($14.99), which had a nice gravy but hardly any cheese curds and I thought the shoestring French fries was an odd choice - they should've gone for chunkier pub-grub type of french fries.
The bar was nice and clean - as were the bathrooms and the service was really good. This place can get quite crowded during sports nights. We will be back!
Husband and I ate Breakfast in the Diner. Opens for breakfast at 11am which is late for those who want a breakfast and not brunch. Tavern food/service is good expected pub food, burgers, Caesar salad, great veggie burger.
However, the Diner is much less favourable. Perhaps they spread themselves too thin. We think the same kitchen services both. I ordered Huevos Rancheros. Not authentically Mexican. Rock hard toasted tortilla. Tortilla should be soft. Refried beans normally served beside eggs not underneath. French fries tasted as though made in old oil. Very slow service even though only 3 tables were occupied including ours. Not at all impressed for the money. Not cheap. Better options for breakfast in the neighbourhood.
