Barberian's Steak House
One of North America's premiere steak and seafood houses. Many of our guests comment of how the warmth and friendliness of Barberian's recalls an earlier era. This impression is complimented by the antiques, paintings and artifacts that we proudly display throughout our restaurant.
First off the staff were friendly and somewhat attentive but could do better.
The long and short of our dining experience was we will never return and suggest that this steak house should be avoided.
$27.00 for a run of the mill Caesar salad you have to be kidding, maybe $6.00 for this small portion with rock hard croutons, not a robust salad dressing topped with 2 slabs of bacon.
Asked for my Centre Cut Top Sirloin to be medium rare and it was rare with bits that were not chewable.
The BBQ Baby Back Ribs were atrocious, the meat was hard what little there was and a total waste of money. I question whether they were actually baby back ribs.
With the baked potato you were offered sour cream and what turned out to be rock hard bacon bits, not enjoyable to say the least.
We were offered the dessert menu which would have cost approximately $100.00 and we passed as we didn’t want to see how they would mess up their offerings.
I couldn’t get out of there fast enough as on top of the poor food it was maddening that this birthday dinner was totally wrecked.
Barberian’s Steakhouse remains a premier Toronto destination for a classic, high-end dining experience. Our party of four enjoyed an exceptional meal starting with the rich, crusty French onion soup and fresh steak tartare. The dry-aged porterhouse was perfectly seared and served with crisp fries, while the New York-style cheesecake with strawberry preserves provided a decadent finish. Between the top-tier service and the historic atmosphere filled with original Canadian art, it was a fantastic evening from start to finish.

Menu
House salad
Creamed spinach
Chateaubriand for two
Two glasses of wine
This place is amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Every dish, even the salad, was delicious. I highly recommend Barberian’s if you want to try a great steakhouse. Reservations are recommended.
They have hundreds of wine selections, which is great if you know about wines.
It’s in a great location, right in downtown Toronto.
However, the tables are a little close together, so it’s not the best place to have a conversation. It was pretty noisy even without background music.
The only minor issue was about with a server. He tried to pick up my dishes couple of times without any notice, I hadn’t finished yet. I understood it was quite busy and loud.
But should be more careful!

Since 1959, Barberian’s Steak House has defined the classic Toronto steakhouse experience.
We started with one of the best steak tartare’s I’ve ever had, freshly seasoned, alongside an outstanding Caesar salad topped with thick-cut seared bacon that added the perfect smoky richness. The massive onion rings were golden, crisp, and a meal itself.
For mains, the 16-ounce rib steak with fries was cooked exactly as ordered — deeply flavorful, tender, and beautifully seared Chicago style to my liking. The side of mushrooms was rich and buttery, pairing perfectly with the steak. The half rack of lamb was equally impressive: super tender, melt in your mouth and cooked to a perfect rarity.
Dessert finished the night with a chocolate mousse layered in a rich white and dark chocolate shell, alongside warm apple beignets served with vanilla ice cream — the perfect sweet ending followed with an espresso.
Overall a fantastic, one of one special experience.
Well done!

5/5. Food was absolutely delicious. We tried the Chateaubriand and the meat was cooked to perfection. As a tenderloin cut, it was so juicy! Fries were well salted and perfectly crispy. French onion soup was packed with melted stretchy cheese. Garlic bread was garlicky and crispy as well. The complimentary pickled vegetables was a perfect combination to cut through any greasiness throughout the meal. While it’s a pricey meal, I’d say worth what you pay for.
Atmosphere was decent - there aren’t any windows in the room we were in, but adds to the rustic feel. Tables are decently spacious and there was staff everywhere - food was served decently quickly, water was constantly filled, and plates cleared quickly. Staff was attentive and friendly. We mentioned we wanted to share the French onion soup - and it was served in two bowls. Great service. Would absolutely come back! Great spot for a special occasion or if you’re looking for a good steak night.

Absolutely amazing all around. Steak cooked to perfection (highly recommend the 32oz Porterhouse to share for two). Everything is made in house including all the desserts (killer cheesecake!). Wine list is spectacular.
Top notch attentive service.
Huge thanks to our server (Aaron I believe- hopefully that's his name, who gave us a great little post dinner tour of the beautiful wine cellar).
Highly recommended a must visit for steak lovers.

Had a great first experience at Barberian’s. Came here as a walk in during a busy holiday season but the manager was still able to accommodate with very little wait time. The french onion soup was not that good. However, the rib steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender. The servers were all very attentive. Would recommend reserving ahead of time as it gets busy during dinner time.
Had a nice welcome in experience , it took them a little bit to find our reservations but we were sitted pretty fast. We had the Onion soup and the soup of the day. Fillet Mignon and 24oz steak, which i cant stress enough how GOOD it was.
For desert we had the Barberian Chocolate House Mousse which i do recommend with coffee.
My honest suggestions is dont shy away from side dishes, they are great addition from tasting variety and pallette.
As far as atmosphere, the late night crowd might get a little bit noisy but not intrusive in my opinion.
My recommendation is to make sure to make a night out of it for sure.
We went here because it was the only place in the vicinity of our hotel we could find that offered table service. We were made to feel a little like we were imposing because we arrived without a reservation. The food was excellent (a bit expensive). Tables are too close together, which added to the dining room being a bit noisy.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal there on a busy Friday evening. Atmosphere was good, friendly, and not stuffy. Service was attentive and food was delicious. Hubby loved the pickled veggies; meat was perfectly cooked-tasty and tender. Sides were tasty and generous. Wine list was daunting- so many choices, and the bottle we chose was a perfect accompaniment. Prices seemed appropriate ( not inexpensive). And the other patrons, who were a varied lot, all seemed to be enjoying the evening there.
We had not booked but took a chance on getting a table as we'd heard good things.
We were not disappointed
My first choice of entree was unavailable, but there was plenty of choice and i can recommend the Filet Mignon in bacon, it was delicious snd perfectly cooked..
The waiter was really nice and we chatted about where we from, it was so pleadant to be served by someone we felt was onterested in what we had to say.
We never felt rushed. The whole evening was just great. Only very minor negative was that the batter on the giant onion rings was a bit doughy but really a very minor point. We loved it there and would recommend it to anyone with a love of good food
I absolutely recommend Barbarian for a unique steak house. Ask for Johnny, he was amazing. The dry age steak was fantastic as was the centre top sirloin.
I also highly recommend the French onion soup and mousse house.
Ask to see the gorgeous wine cellar.
This place was recommended to me and it did not disappoint.
I had the top sirloin which was cooked to perfection and had a side of their sprouts (not to be missed!)
The wine list is superb and I enjoyed a couple of glasses of excellent Burgundy and again, they were so flexible in accommodating my request. They know how to look after their clients.
The digestif options were not bad either! 😉
Highly recommended and you should probably book in advance given the queue outside the following night.
I will be back 👌
I was craving steak recently, so I decided to try out this longtime steakhouse located in the heart of Toronto. They’ve got this really old-fashioned vibe all over the place from the menu to the decorations, which was cool to see. The food was great - although not the best steak I’ve ever had, it’s easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Toronto. They’ve also got an extensive wine list - by that, I meant EXTENSIVE! It is pages long and you’d have a hard time picking one out of it.
We tried the 32oz porterhouse steak, and according to the server, it is dry-aged for a minimum of 40 days. The medium rare steak was cooked exactly like how I anticipated it to be, albeit it could use more seasoning - I am personally a fan of using coarse salt over fine table salt on steaks. The Grilled Bacon, Beef Salami, Croquettes for the appetizer was also okay.
Of course, it isn’t a cheap place to eat. I can easily find a quality Bistecca alla Fiorentina in Tuscany with less damage to my wallet, however, it’s still a decent place to have a steak in Toronto if you are craving for it.
