I cannot speak highly enough about our two visits this week to Hy’s in Toronto. I am a steak fanatic from London UK … they had to live up to my high expectations and they did.

Having had a really good experience on Sunday we visited again Wednesday.

The steak was excellent quality meat and perfectly cooked to medium rare.

Might sound a bit strange but the onion rings on both visits were superb!!

However a highlight is the mashed potato!! Great consistency with some nutmeg to flavour … to die for alongside a very good peppercorn sauce.

Desserts were excellent … I could’ve started at the top and worked my way through.

Wines were satisfactory and Tom Collins refreshing.

Chatting with a staff member he probably nailed it when he said … “we basically do meat and potatoes but we do very good meat and potatoes”. That is simplifying things to an extreme but sometimes that works.

Service was outstanding.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Hy’s to fellow steak lovers.

Hy‘s Steakhouse is in Toronto downtown near to the Old City Hall located.

The building is not spectacular, but the interior and the room are so.

They have an outstanding bar area inside the restaurant.

I ordered a porterhouse steak with a green salad.
The steak was perfect!

The staff is also outstanding and very helpful.

I enjoyed my diner there very much.

Celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary at Hy’s in Toronto was truly unforgettable from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with genuine warmth, congratulated on our milestone, and graciously told, “your table is ready and waiting for you,” immediately setting the tone for a thoughtful and memorable evening.

Every detail of the night felt exceptional. We began with the jumbo prawn cocktail, crab cakes, and Hy’s famous cheese toast for two, famously irresistible for a reason. Each dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavour, accompanied by teardrop peppers, fresh corn and hearts of palm. Our selections were perfectly complemented by a rich Chilean Cabernet and a Picaro cocktail.

For our main course, we enjoyed a perfectly prepared 14 oz New York striploin, served alongside a mixed green salad with red wine vinaigrette, brown sugar pecan carrots, charred lemon parmesan asparagus, and sautéed cremini mushrooms, mashed and baked potato. Each element was delicious and elegantly presented, creating a meal that felt both indulgent and impeccably balanced.

Our servers, Jacob and Jimmy, elevated the experience to another level. Jacob was attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating throughout the evening, while Jimmy brought a natural warmth and charm that made us feel completely at ease. Discovering his Greek heritage was a delightful and unexpected connection, bringing back cherished memories of our honeymoon in Greece and adding a deeply personal touch to our celebration.

To conclude the evening, Jimmy prepared bananas foster tableside with remarkable skill and elegance. As he sautéed ripe bananas in butter, brown sugar, and fresh orange juice before flambéing them with dark rum, the presentation was both captivating and refined. Served over vanilla ice cream, it was a flawless and memorable finale.

A thoughtful surprise from dear friends—cheesecake and prosecco—made the evening even more special, with Hy’s famous cheesecake and berry compote providing a perfect final note.

Hy’s delivered an exceptional dining experience in every respect—impeccable service, outstanding cuisine, and an atmosphere that makes any occasion feel truly significant. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking to celebrate a special moment in a setting that exceeds expectations.

Everything about Hy’s is top notch - ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food!

Got to give a shout out to Prentice who provided best-in-class service! He designed the perfect lunch for us.

Definitely do not miss out the cheese bread - it’s something else! The shrimp cocktail is four completely symmetric jumbo shrimp. We listened to Prentice and got the bone-in NY to share instead of individual strips - completely the right call!

We had the pleasure of dining here before a show and it was fabulous! My husband had never experienced Hy's before and he was more than happy with our dinner. The cheesy bread was a must of course and he absolutely loved it. The staff was fabulous with a special mention going out to Gabriel! From start to finish, our visit to Hy's was woderful! Thank you.

Few restaurants are as storied and celebrated for grand elegant dining as Hy’s, where being there is already a cause for celebration! My dear friend and colleague Sir Bruce’s favorite restaurant for decades. Our server Dayna was wonderful and provided superb service, helped select wine, and prepared our flambéd bananas Foster. Cesar salad prepared tableside. Huge porterhouse and filet steaks grilled to perfection. Seared scallops and prawn cocktail appetizers, sides of mashed potatoes and cremini mushrooms all delicious. This is a great date night spot! Right in the center of DT. The service was great everything was perfect. The food was amazing. The Caesar Salad and steak tartar they make at your table. The steak tartar was so fresh! I order the prime rib steak cooked to perfection. Honestly one of the best steaks I had! If your looking for a great steakhouse this is the place for you! For a side I would reccommend the grilled asparagus!! There was a live singer in Saturday night which was very nice!

I would like to start off with saying that I don't eat steak. We were a group of 5 on a Friday at 5pm. We had reservations. We were able to order from the happy hour menu until 6pm. I had a hamburger and I wouldn't recommend it. There also sliders, but they were cuts of beef instead of ground beef. I did not try any of the cocktails. The wine list is extensive and highly recommended. I would come back to try the drinks.

lovely first time experience here! we had items from their lounge menu (before 4pm they offer mostly shareables, after 4pm it is their full menu); prawns, caesar salad, cheese toast. had their purple reign, feature cocktail (on that day it was their moscow mule), french 75, and an old-fashioned; all cocktails were satisfying and well-made. would have loved to stay for their dinner menu but we were quickly full! we will definitely be back for a second time to try their steaks. kudos to tanya, our wonderful server! she was super friendly and attentive throughout our whole experience.

Went for a business dinner and was surrounded by what seemed like some of the most important people in Toronto! In all seriousness this is an incredible restaurant and this seems to be one of those places where Torontonians get their steak on. While I opted for scallops and shrimp (exquisite) I heard nothing but compliments from diners that were indulging in meat. Well presented meals in a bougie setting with a waitstaff that knows how to treat their customers. Their wine list was extensive and while the prices were high…Hy’s was worth it. A remarkable meal in a wonderful city.

One of the contenders for top steakhouse in Toronto for me!
You get the old school steakhouse atmosphere but in a really modern and beautiful space. The service we got from Tye was top notch.
Cocktails were great, a bit pricey for what you got but understandable for the place.
The food was absolutely amazing. The table side Caesar was one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Carpaccio was good but small.
We got the peppercorn and filet à la hys. Both were so juicy and tender! The sauces were perfect.
Finished with the table side bananas foster, which was delicious - wanted to lick the plate clean!
Will absolutely be back. What a great spot!

Meh. The ambiance of this place was good, but at the same time it’s kind of giving Handmaid’s Tale vibes from the hostesses’ turquoise high neck uniform and the dark moody expensive decor.
My meal was not great for a $70 entree. Also the booths were very uncomfortable with zero back support. :/
The service was great, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the lacklustre meal. Also I’m not a fan of iPads on the table for the menu. Sorry. Probably wouldn’t return.

This restaurant evokes a bygone era of refinement, with dark wood paneling, plush leather seats, and soft golden lighting that creates an air of quiet sophistication.
​The Onion Soup set a remarkable precedent, its depth of flavour was truly exceptional.​
For the mains, the Rack of Lamb was a masterclass in preparation. The meat was rendered to a flawless medium-rare, possessing a succulent, fork-tender texture and a clean, pronounced flavour that spoke of high-quality sourcing, just enhanced its richness without overpowering the natural taste of the lamb.
​The Beef Wellington was a triumph of classic cuisine, a dish that demands technical precision. The flaky, golden-brown puff pastry enveloped a generous portion of tender, perfectly seared beef fillet, all cemented by a rich, earthy layer of duxelles. It was a harmonious balance of texture and intense flavour, executed with impressive skill.
​The Pork Chop presented a beautiful pink interior, testament to precise cooking, yet it possessed a slight rough texture that contrasted with the dish's overall finesse. This was admirably balanced by the accompanying mashed potatoes, which were commendably light and non-greasy, an excellent complement to the savoury meat.
​The presentation of the Caesar Salad and the Banana Ice Cream was a theatrical highlight, both being prepared tableside to perfection. This element of tableside preparation offered a touch of engaging performance and ensured the ultimate freshness of the dishes.
​The service was impeccable, with the waiters clad in striking, loose-fitting, grey uniforms, lending a wonderfully vintage and distinctive atmosphere to the room.
We do have a unforgettable wonderful time in Hy's.

We went there for my Bday this October 2025 , we were happy because we didn’t had any reservation but they gave us a table , we ordered meat of course it was amazing , cocktails are a must they have the bests , and dessert wow 🤩 , they add Happy Bday to mine , thank you so much for the detail. Would go back next time when in Canada 🍁
