Gus Tacos
Gus Tacos is hands down the closest thing to authentic California-style tacos you can get in Toronto. The flavors are fresh, bold, and perfectly balanced—every bite reminded me of proper West Coast taco spots.
The lamb taco was outstanding—juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The pollo (chicken) taco was equally impressive: tender, flavorful, and paired beautifully with their toppings and salsa. You can truly taste the quality and care in the food.
A special shoutout to Kareena, who was amazing—friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. Great service always elevates great food, and she nailed it.
If you’re downtown, this place is a must-visit. Simple menu, big flavors, authentic vibes, and consistently delicious tacos. Easily one of the best taco experiences in Toronto. Will definitely be back again and again!
visiting the area for the week, saw this place had many good reviews and deservingly so! i got the chicken quesadilla and it was so delicious, and for only $7 you can’t beat that. i did underestimate how hot their hot sauce is tho, if you like spicy that’s for you!
My visit to Gus Tacos was earlier this year, but I still wanted to share my experience. The tacos were genuinely tasty — flavorful, fresh, and well-seasoned. You can tell the kitchen knows what they’re doing, and the food itself is definitely the highlight. If I were rating only the taste, it would probably be higher, because the quality and flavors are really enjoyable.
However, a few things kept the overall experience from being perfect. The main one was the general cleanliness of the place. It wasn’t extremely dirty or anything major, but it did feel a little bit messy or lightly unorganized — honestly, about the same as many small Mexican taco spots. Nothing shocking, nothing that ruined the meal, just something that could be improved to make the atmosphere feel more welcoming. A bit more regular tidying would make a big difference without changing the casual vibe of the restaurant.
The other point is the price. While the tacos were delicious, I personally felt they were a bit too expensive for the portion size and overall value. There are other places in Toronto that offer similar taste for slightly better prices. It’s not outrageous, but it did feel on the higher side for me.
Overall, the food is genuinely good, but the price is a bit high and the environment could be slightly cleaner. I hope they make a few small improvements, because the flavor is great and the place has real potential.
I tried Gus Tacos for the first time today and I have nothing but amazing things to say. I got the Birra burrito which was so tender and tasty. You can taste the authenticity of the braised meat. The Latino music gives it a great vibe. 100% coming back to try the other menu items.
Amazing tacos in Kensington! Great price and quick service.
We got the battered fish and the braised lamb. They were very fresh and the sauce was great. The service was fast, it took maybe 5 minutes to get the tacos.
I will definitely be coming here again next time I’m in Kensington market.
Never again.....give me a break.A burrito and a bottle of coke 20 dollars ......i can get a half chicken dinner at swiss chalet for a extra 2 bucks. On top of that, there was hardly any beef in the taco,it was dry and mediocre at best.any fast food restaurant offers more value ,than this place.wont be going back.
This casual hole-in-the-wall on Augusta is a gem. We had 2 burritos made to order, one vegetable w fresh cheese and avocado, and the other chicken. We were offered mild, med or hot sauce on the side, they arrived maybe 8 minutes after ordering, looking small and trim and neat and appealing. AND, they delivered. Both were delicious. Next time, I'd add the guac and chips to my order as an appetizer, cuz the next diners had them and they looked GREAT. GOOD FOOD HERE.
I purchased 3 Birria Tacos and 3 Taco Pastor, yesterday, May 15th.
I have had the Birria before nd it was always good.
Yesterday it was uneatable. It was so dry that I couldn't swallow it. I asked one of my work mates to have a bite, and he had to spit it out.
You should bring your staff to Birria Catrina to taste the real thing.
The location was at 1546 Dupont St. and I will not be returning.
