La Salumeria
La Salumeria is an Italian deli in Midtown
Words can’t describe the experience it is to bite down on one of those sandwiches. This place was a very well hidden gem!
Upon entering, you are under the impression that the place is a simple deli counter. However, you must go to the very end of the store to find these heavenly sandwiches. The service is amazing, feels like family.
I am truly grateful to have stopped by; will most definitely be one of many visits.
It's not often you find the service like you do here - welcoming, friendly, helpful and quick. Good quality food for a good price. It can get very packed in here. There is no menu but everyone knows of the "house special" filled with spicy sopressata, mortadella, balsamic, and fig like jam. There is no menu but you can ask to build a sandwich of your choice, you just need to know what you want/like. The ordering starts with you choosing the bread near the front counter before you bring it to the deli. The house special goes for $16.50 as of April 2026.
I also enjoyed the plentiful pate offerings here where you can buy by weight. Cheese. Meats. Pate. Oils. Many many options in this grocery store mixed deli.
Quick update:
I went back and got ciabatta bread, and add more to the to the house special, this was one of the best sandwiches I ever had. This place is a local gem. Highly highly recommend it.
The sandwich was amazing, taste wise. It was very on point and everything and it was awesome. The only thing I didn’t like was the bread, it just seemed it wasn’t the best choice for the house special, but it was my first time and I didn’t know to order it with ciabatta and added mortadella. There’s always next time which I will be there for sure. ;)

The best sandwich I have ever had in my life. I got the classic house special sandwich which was great then I came back and made a custom sandwich and it was life changing. The ingredients are so fresh and it is worth every penny and more. The owner and staff are so lovely as well. This place is truly a gem that deserves all the hype.

I’ve seen this shop recommended on Reddit plenty of times, so naturally, I had to try it myself!
The House Special was sooooo worth it. Even if you pick a small bun, they stuff it to the fullest. All the fillings complemented each other that every bite was just delicious.
Honestly, it’s the best sandwich shop I’ve been to in Toronto so far!

I’ve heard for ages that La Salumeria serves some of the best Italian sandwiches in Toronto, and I finally made my pilgrimage. I practically raced against the clock, sliding through the doors with only 5 minutes to spare before closing.
Despite the late hour, the women working were absolutely incredible. They weren't just accommodating; they were genuinely happy to make my "house special" sandwich dreams come true.
The Sandwich:
I am still savouring the experience. The bread was exceptionally fresh, and the flavour profile was a total surprise. It was an orchestra of spicy, sweet, and creamy—layers of spicy sopressata, fresh mozzarella, tangy balsamic, and a sweet jam that tied it all together ❣️
The Shop:
While they prepared my order, I browsed their selection of authentic Italian imports. It’s a goldmine! I even scored a high-quality panettone at a great price.
I felt truly taken care of here. The hospitality reminded me so much of my time in Rome. This Bella is here for it!
Highly recommended.

The shop is unique and offers good quality food, but there is a lot of room for improvement if they want to attract new customers. They could display their house specialty ingredients on the wall and list more cold sandwich options, similar to a menu. It’s also not clear that customers should choose their bread at the front before ordering their sandwich. Overall, it was worth trying and it’s a great shop.

Been following this place forever and finally tried a sandwich for the first time.. They did not disappoint.. Wow.. Definitely surpassed my expectations.. I have to admit.. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.. And I've had a lot of sandwiches.. So fresh.. So good.. No wonder they've been around for 40+ years.. Place is cute with a lot of European imports.. Also.. Carlo the owner is amazing.. This place is a must try in my opinion.
I was a bit annoyed at the no menu and kinda just figure it out way here, newbies need some guidance, so someone patient enough to properly explain what toppings are available or what to order would improve the overall experience. Thankfully a regular recommended I get the special so I went with that. Thank you kind stranger!!!
Onto the positive: The special sandwich is absolutely worth every penny. Might sound like a steep price for a deli meat sandwich but it’s so much more. All the ingredients go perfectly well together! Incredible flavour, the sandwich is huge, very generous with ingredients ! My mind was just blown by the flavour. It was so good that I came back the next day for another sandwich! The first time I had the special as is, the second time I had the special, added onion, no fig jam but pesto instead. Pesto was so good! Both versions were very delicious but the fig jam OG version, was better in my opinion. The contrast between sweet and salty was chefs kiss! Thank you Salumeria, I’ll be back.
I’ve tried many sandwiches in Toronto but this is by far THE BEST I’ve ever had in this city!!! The house special sandwich includes a sweet balsamic glaze, salami, mozzarella, tomato, prosciutto, and a spicy chili sauce. It’s absolutely divine. The sandwich is huge and packed incredibly tightly with fresh ingredients. And the staff were so friendly!
We tried La Salumeria and absolutely loved it! We had the house sandwich and the mortadella sandwich—both were delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The staff were lovely, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. The only thing to note is that it was extremely busy and the wait for sandwiches was about 30–40 minutes. Totally worth it, but I’d recommend avoiding peak lunchtime on a weekend if you’re not up for waiting. Otherwise, this spot is definitely worth checking out!
I must try! I’ve heard nothing but good things about this place, and it lives up to its hype. Trust the owner and get the house special made. They also have a wide variety of deli meats, cheeses, and everything in between olive oil, pasta, and other imported, Italian goodies.
Don’t miss out on this place
This place has been getting an insane amount of recognition on tic toc it is in my area so of course I had to get on board and go check them out. I ended up going late Saturday afternoon, when I arrived there was a line to the door, a staff member was nice enough to ask if I was here to get a sandwhich I said yes and she told me they have run out of buns which was a good to know so that I didn't waste my time standing there. The next day sunday I went back much earlier, the line wasn't that bad I grabbed a panni roll and waited about 15 min. I ordered the house special the owner ended up making the sandwhich he was very nice. When I got home I immediately went for the sandwhich, it had a very unique taste because of the fig jam, the flavour profile was salty sweet, the bun was fresh and overall the sandwhich was good I only ate half of it and was full. Would I say that this was the best sammi I've ever had? Not quiet I think it's a decent sandwhich and that the social media hype about it is a bit extra. I would go back if I happen to be in the area but I would probably just order a regular sandwhich that prices in under $15. If you get a chance to go because you are in the area sure check it out but if you live a distance away I'm not sure I personally would go out of my way. However if you do stop in also check out the great products the store has they have alot of imported goods and the owner and staff are very friendly. Give a thumbs up if you found this helpful!
I got the pizza ciabatta sized bun (pro tip: the earlier you go, the better as three types of bread were already sold out!). Even though it looked smaller when we selected the bun, it was surprisingly very filling! We only finished half each. We chose two of the in-house specials, which came to about $15 each, totally worth it. I would recommend adding arugula if it’s available and that’s something you like. The staff is super friendly, and the line moved quickly. Great experience overall!
La Salumeria is a unique gem that defies easy categorization—it's not quite a restaurant, nor just a sandwich shop; it feels like a small grocery store with a kitchen that crafts unforgettable sandwiches. Trust me, once you try one of their creations, you'll realize that no other sandwich can compare.
The owner, a true sandwich Picasso, is an inventive genius. If you're curious about what makes their sandwiches so special, just walk in and ask for the house special at the sandwich bar. Then, find a comfy seat because you might be too blissed out to stand after that first bite!
And before you leave, make sure to grab some Italian delicacies from their selection. If you know what you're doing, you won't regret it!
