The Bagel House

Operating 24/7 since 1999, The Bagel House at Bayview Avenue brings authentic Montreal-style bagels to the heart of Toronto. Their signature hand-rolled and honey‑boiled bagels are baked over maple‑wood in wood‑fired ovens, serving up items like breakfast sandwiches, lox & cream‑cheese, smoked meats, and knishes. Known for consistent freshness and convenience, this location is popular among early birds, late-night visitors, and anyone craving hearty deli fare any time of day.

The Bagel House is conveniently open 24 hours a day, offering Montréal style bagels whenever people want them, though some people might be picky on freshness. Generally that's the nature of bagels, regardless of store. If I play tennis around this neighbourhood, I stop by for half a dozen bagels and eat them quickly. The regular classic bagels are fairly priced.

This is the best bagel shop in all of Toronto. The only other match would be Montreal bagels equally fine of course. Fortunately, I don’t have to go to Montreal!

I'll keep this short and sweet; the bagels here rival those other so-called Montreal style bagles. They taste filling and nourishing and, as a born and bred Montrealer, I can attest that they rival some of the better bagel places in Montreal itself.

I'd give these guys a try and see for yourself.

I have been eating at the Bagel House on Bayview for many years and it has always been exactly what I want! They make my veggie breakfast bagel the way I love it! I have been to other locations as well and they are also great, but sitting at the counter at the Bayview location watching the street life go by feels like home! Thank you Bagel House!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Outstanding Bagel Experience

This bagel store is the kind of place that instantly raises your standards for what a bagel should be. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with that warm, toasty smell of freshly baked dough—always a good sign. The bagels are made fresh daily, and it shows in every bite: perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, with just the right density.

The variety is impressive without being overwhelming. From classic plain and sesame to more flavorful options like everything, asiago, and cinnamon raisin, every bagel tastes intentional and well-crafted. They’re not overly salty, not bland—just balanced. Toasted or not, they hold their structure and never fall apart under spreads or toppings.

Speaking of spreads, the cream cheese selection is top-tier. Smooth, rich, and generously applied, with flavors that actually taste real—not artificial or watered down. Whether you go with a classic plain, a savory herb blend, or something sweeter, it complements the bagel instead of overpowering it.

The sandwiches are another highlight. Fresh ingredients, thoughtful combinations, and portions that are filling without being messy. Everything tastes fresh, from the vegetables to the proteins, and nothing feels rushed or mass-produced.

Service is fast, friendly, and efficient, even during busy hours. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing and keeps things moving while still being welcoming. The atmosphere is cozy and casual—perfect for a quick stop or a relaxed morning bite.

Overall, this bagel store nails everything that matters: quality, consistency, and care. It’s the kind of place you crave again the moment you leave—and the kind you recommend without hesitation.

Prepare to suffer if you eat here. While the staff was friendly and accommodating, the food quality and overall experience left me questioning hygiene and freshness.

I ordered a turkey club bagel with bacon — the turkey was soggy, and the meat didn’t seem fresh. Unfortunately, I felt very unwell the next day, which makes me believe the meat may have been spoiled.

Choosing to sit on the patio was also a mistake. The space was covered in ants, which made it uncomfortable to eat and completely ruined the Jamaican patties I had ordered to go — they were swarmed with ants before I could even take them home.

Overall, despite the good service, the food quality and lack of cleanliness made this a terrible experience. I would not return.

Average. Their everything bagel+ cream cheese is worse than Tim Hortons'. Their blueberry cheese bagel didn't have any cheese it, just a tasteless blueberry jelly.
And you never know where the line starts. They should take orders at the cash and people pay, then hand them their orders. Disorganized order system. People who work there are nice tho.

First time having a Montreal bagel(I’m from nyc so it will be a bit to get used to 😜) really good fresh from the oven everything 🥯

By Kevin Church on Jul 30, 2025 Verified by Business

They make Montreal style, specifically St. Viateur style, bagels. They are more chewy and less fluffy. If thats what you want, this is the best option I've found in Toronto. They're my favourite style of bagel. If you want a soft, squishy bagel, you wont find it here! The cream cheese is also great. I can't comment on the other food, but remember that this is called "The Bagel House". You should be buying bagels and related products here.

Things you should know: this type of bagel will not stay fresh for multiple days. These should be eaten within two days for peak freshness. They should be kept in a plastic bag; that's why they're giving you the plastic bag at the store! After two days, you will absolutely need to toast them, as they will be hard. If you aren't going to eat them within two days, freeze them! Defrost one, slice it in half, and put it in the toaster for a bit when you want one, and it will be good.

Now you know, so don't give this place a bad review because your bagels get hard after two days :)

Average bagels!

Bagels are decent but considering how expensive this place is I would have to give this place 3 stars. Bagels didn’t feel oven fresh. Cream cheese over was very delicious which was the best part.

My cream cheese bagel could have been prepared nicer especially because it wasn’t busy!

Services and atmosphere is not bad either!

$35.55 for three tuna bagels. Just bleeping ridiculous. They think they're make more money with such high prices but I'll never make that mistake again. So much for being smart.
