We had the Iraqi Kebab Plate and the Supreme Chicken Shawarma. Both are excellent options I would highly recommend.
The Iraqi Kebab Plate's serving size is big. Depending on the person, you can either indulge and eat it all in one seating or eat just enough and take a portion to go. The Plate comes with 2 sauces and a side of grilled veggies to balance out the meaty taste.
Their Supreme Chicken Shawarma is top-tier. It is densely packed with thin slices of meat, sauces, and other fillings. Everything is packaged together in their freshly made tanoor bread that is soft and cripsy. Right before serving the tanoor-wrapped shawarma is slightly pressed against the grill to give it that welcome burnt crisp taste. What stood out as a little different was that the shawarma wrap has something like coleslaw inside. It gives it a unique flavour profile compared to many othet shawarma wraps.
Overall, the Kebab Plate and especially Supreme Shawarma Wrap are among the best in class for Kebab and Shawarma. Next time I come in I would try out their Veal meat options.
My only suggestion is I hope that they put in more description as to what is included in the menu items as displayed on the menu board above and behind the counter. It can help in the ordering process to know exactly how the Iraqi Kebab Plate differs with the Mixed Kebab Plate as an example.
Hands down, one of the best places to have Middle Eastern food in GTA is this place.
Their food is absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The grilled meats are tender and beautifully seasoned, with that authentic smoky flavor that makes Iraqi cuisine so special. Every dish tastes homemade and thoughtfully crafted, from the rice to the freshly baked bread (Tanoor).
We usually order their wraps, and have tried almost all of them; Falafel, Chicken, beef and Kabob. All of which have their own authentic taste, but my favourite is Falafel, it’s so crispy, flavourful and packed with spices.
If you’re looking for authentic Iraqi flavors, high-quality ingredients, and a welcoming experience, Sumaq Iraqi Grill is a must-visit. I can’t wait to go back and try more from their menu.
Sneaky good food! Absolutely loved everything. Next time we’ll try their rice! Constant customers grabbing food to go. The seating is limited, but you’ll be able to grab a table by the time your meal is ready!
6/5: The chicken charcoal wrap is smoky, juicy, punch of flavour!! Outstanding meat!
6/5: The mixed shawarma might be my favourite shawarma in Toronto!! The meats are flavourful and layered so you’re getting all the different tastes throughout your wrap.
5/5: garlic potatoes melt in your mouth! It’s so comforting!
4/5: fries are classic crunchy seasoned. They act as a palette cleanser between the wraps and garlic potatoes.
Best shawarma of my life, the people working here are also so kind. The portions were massive and a great price. Also got the mixed mezze plate and falafel which was so crispy and not dry at all.
Their garlic sauce and tahini sauce is NEXT level and the rice is amazing. Loved every bite and only wish I could come back more. I would go out of my way for Sumaq any day of the week.
Personally I liked the chicken shawarma better than the mixed but both were amazing.
I ordered a few chicken shawarma wraps on the tandoor bread. Even though there were about 6 to 7 people waiting with me, the order was made fast and delivered correctly.
The wrap is definitely filling but its not because of the inside filling, its the thick tandoor bread thats wrapped tightly.
There wasn’t enough chicken in the wrap at all. All i could taste is the pita more than anything else.
The chicken wasn’t too flavourful and did not taste like it was cut out from the shawarma spit.
I am not sure if its because it was busy at the time but i would say its an average shawarma and there are many other stores in the area with better tasting shawarma.
I've been wanting to try Sumaq for ages after seeing it in so many top 10 shawarma videos around the GTA. Finally went with a friend and I got the chicken and veal shawarma on tanoor bread (first time trying that bread). Right away, I noticed they're super generous with the meat-way more than most places I've been to.
The chicken shawarma was incredible. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Easily in my top 5. The veal had good seasoning, but the meat was a bit dry or it felt slightly overcooked.
Overall, great experience. I honestly wish I lived on Lawrence Ave just to be able to eat here more often!
Good food. Bought a beef shawarma sandwich.
However I found some chicken pieces not much in my sandwich. Found a small piece of bone. I grabbed a can of pop had little dirt on top. Place is noisy during dinner time. Staff need a better training dealing with customers. Food portion is good. I’ll definitely go back hoping what I mentioned is rectified.
Bought the shawarma platter. Impressed by the quantity and quality. With 4 people we found it difficult to finish off. Definitely worth the money. But can’t say lot about the taste. I find It normal. Not worth the hype. Too busy afternoon, had to stand for a long time. Even for dine in you have to wait. Hopefully they will find some solution for the rush, since they have grown.
First time visiting after hearing a-lot about it!
Definitely a yummy shawarma spot. Is it my favourite? probably not. However i would still come here time and time again. Not enough seating but thats understandable especially during busy times! I got the mix shawarma. Bread is made fresh which makes a world of a difference! I usually go to Empire shawarma (which is still my favourite) but ill add this to the shuffle.
delicious shawarma and falafel wraps! definitely get the freshly made tandoor bread which is standout. fillings were decent but not as substantial as their scarborough location. they also did not finish it enough on the grill like they do in scarborough, so there’s room for improvement. falafel wrap comes with lots of veggies, chicken shawarma not as much. very good nonetheless.
I tried the Mixed Kebab Plate and Mixed Shawarma at Sumaq, and both were absolutely wonderful! The meat was juicy, fresh, and perfectly tender—so easy to enjoy. Highly recommend this place Bonus: they have plenty of free parking, which makes the experience even better!
