My first job, at 14 years old, for $5 an hour, was at a shawarma restaurant. It's fair to say I've been in the shawarma game a long time, and I've had my fair share.
This is, in my opinion, the best shawarma plate in Toronto. Sumaq's shawarma is like a symphony – the chicken was the lead violin: perfectly seasoned, juicy and beautifully charred. The garlic sauce: the brass section - bold, powerful and impossible to ignore. The pickles: flutists. The salad kept the tempo, and the rice and potatoes provided the warm, dependable bass line holding the whole performance together. the hot sauce delicately dings the triangle. Every ingredient played its part, nothing was out of tune, and by the end, a single solitary tear ran down my cheek and I suddenly understood what it must have been like to be at Mozart's last performance. An absolutely outstanding plate.
The food was good but they really messed up my order. I asked for 3 wraps,, one with veal, 2 chicken, and one veal supreme on tanour bread, all spicy and no pickles. But the 3 wraps all had pickles, and they gave me a chicken supreme, which is $1 less than the veal supreme, and it was not spicy. Disappointed in the botched order. I recommend the, regular wrap to the supreme.
The Chicken shawarma tasted okay, slightly bland. The toppings were skimpy and Flavor was lacking.
Mine extra hot and it tasted mild -medium.
I excepted more from this place but didn't find it.
I'll have to visit again and try other items. Maybe it will be better next time.

We had a wonderful experience at Sumaq Iraqi 🇮🇶 Charcoal Grill. I visited with my family and we ordered the mixed kebab, fresh bread, and other items from the menu. Everything was amazing. The food was delicious, tasty, and full of flavor. The fresh bread was warm and perfectly made, which made the meal even better.
The restaurant looked very clean, and everything felt fresh and well prepared. The service was also excellent — the staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
The prices are definitely worth it for the quality and portion size. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit, and my whole family loved it. We will definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

My kids insisted we come here over March Break and so happy I made the trek. I had the most delicious chicken shwarma wrap while my kids had the chicken supreme. The portion was big enough that I took home leftovers. The flavor and chargrilled taste were *chef's kiss*. We can't wait to visit again to try something new.

After hearing non-stop recommendations from friends, I finally made the trip to Sumaq, and it’s safe to say the hype is real. I opted for the chicken shawarma wrap on their signature tandoori bread, and it was a game-changer.
If you're looking for a fast, high-quality meal that doesn't compromise on flavor or freshness, Sumaq is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be heading back soon!
We had the Iraqi Kebab Plate and the Supreme Chicken Shawarma. Both are excellent options I would highly recommend.
The Iraqi Kebab Plate's serving size is big. Depending on the person, you can either indulge and eat it all in one seating or eat just enough and take a portion to go. The Plate comes with 2 sauces and a side of grilled veggies to balance out the meaty taste.
Their Supreme Chicken Shawarma is top-tier. It is densely packed with thin slices of meat, sauces, and other fillings. Everything is packaged together in their freshly made tanoor bread that is soft and cripsy. Right before serving the tanoor-wrapped shawarma is slightly pressed against the grill to give it that welcome burnt crisp taste. What stood out as a little different was that the shawarma wrap has something like coleslaw inside. It gives it a unique flavour profile compared to many othet shawarma wraps.
Overall, the Kebab Plate and especially Supreme Shawarma Wrap are among the best in class for Kebab and Shawarma. Next time I come in I would try out their Veal meat options.
My only suggestion is I hope that they put in more description as to what is included in the menu items as displayed on the menu board above and behind the counter. It can help in the ordering process to know exactly how the Iraqi Kebab Plate differs with the Mixed Kebab Plate as an example.

Hands down, one of the best places to have Middle Eastern food in GTA is this place.
Their food is absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The grilled meats are tender and beautifully seasoned, with that authentic smoky flavor that makes Iraqi cuisine so special. Every dish tastes homemade and thoughtfully crafted, from the rice to the freshly baked bread (Tanoor).
We usually order their wraps, and have tried almost all of them; Falafel, Chicken, beef and Kabob. All of which have their own authentic taste, but my favourite is Falafel, it’s so crispy, flavourful and packed with spices.
If you’re looking for authentic Iraqi flavors, high-quality ingredients, and a welcoming experience, Sumaq Iraqi Grill is a must-visit. I can’t wait to go back and try more from their menu.

We recently ordered a large quantity of veal and chicken wraps from Sumaq Iraqi Charcoal Grill for a company lunch, and it was a huge hit. The food was incredibly flavourful, fresh, and perfectly cooked. Both the veal and chicken were tender, well-seasoned, and generously portioned, and the wraps held up great even for a larger group order.
The ordering process was smooth, the food was ready on time, and everything was packaged neatly, which made serving a crowd easy. We had lots of compliments from the team and several people asking where the food was from.
Highly recommend Sumaq for catering or group orders authentic, delicious, and reliable. Azat and Foujan were extremely polite and easy to coordinate with. We’ll definitely be ordering again.
Sneaky good food! Absolutely loved everything. Next time we’ll try their rice! Constant customers grabbing food to go. The seating is limited, but you’ll be able to grab a table by the time your meal is ready!
6/5: The chicken charcoal wrap is smoky, juicy, punch of flavour!! Outstanding meat!
6/5: The mixed shawarma might be my favourite shawarma in Toronto!! The meats are flavourful and layered so you’re getting all the different tastes throughout your wrap.
5/5: garlic potatoes melt in your mouth! It’s so comforting!
4/5: fries are classic crunchy seasoned. They act as a palette cleanser between the wraps and garlic potatoes.

Best shawarma of my life, the people working here are also so kind. The portions were massive and a great price. Also got the mixed mezze plate and falafel which was so crispy and not dry at all.
Their garlic sauce and tahini sauce is NEXT level and the rice is amazing. Loved every bite and only wish I could come back more. I would go out of my way for Sumaq any day of the week.
Personally I liked the chicken shawarma better than the mixed but both were amazing.
