It was a fun and unique dining experience! I loved that you can have as many fries as you want, which was definitely a highlight. The steak was flavorful and cooked well. The drinks were good, but a bit on the pricey side. The restaurant itself is quite small, so it can feel a little crowded. The desserts looked delicious, although I didn’t get a chance to try them. Overall, everything was a little expensive for what you get, but it was still a memorable experience that’s worth trying at least once.

If you’re looking for the l’Entrecote de Paris experience, this is not it.

Compared to the French favourite…
- The sauce is tart and lemony, not green and savory
- the 10oz steak is very fatty. 2oz was cut off discarded
- the salad includes smoky/sweet walnuts
- it’s expensive - $60 for fatty steak, salad and unlimited fries
- they put the steak on a metal platter over a candle , which continues to cook your steak.

I was hoping for a French experience, I didn’t get it…

My husband took us to J’s Steak Frites for our anniversary, along with our 11-year-old daughter. Our 21-year-old son ended up joining us last minute, and the restaurant was very accommodating with a reservation change, which we really appreciated.

The experience itself was excellent from start to finish. It’s a fixed menu, beginning with a candied walnut green salad that was fresh, well-balanced, and a great way to start the meal. We also added bread (for an additional cost), which paired perfectly with the salad.

For the main, we had the 10oz New York striploin, cooked to preference and served with a house sauce that was so good we ordered an extra. The steak comes out on a heated plate, which is a thoughtful touch, especially if you tend to eat at a slower pace like myself. It also includes unlimited fries, which were best enjoyed fresh and hot as they were served.

We paired everything with red wine, and it all came together really well. To finish, we shared two of the daily desserts, which were a great ending to the meal.

Overall, a memorable anniversary dinner with great food, thoughtful service, and a team that went out of their way to accommodate us. Total cost for the evening was around $455, and for the experience, it felt worthwhile.

Would definitely return.

The steak is tasty (however it gets slightly cold if put on table for too long). I like the appetizer salad, which is very nice. The dessert here is not very surprising so I wouldn’t recommend dessert. The steak combo is nice, though, so I still give it five stars.

Had a really great dinner here. For $60 per person, the fixed menu includes a 10 oz steak, salad, and unlimited fries, which is actually a great deal for the quality and portion. The steak was very tender and flavorful, and the fries were crispy and kept coming. The atmosphere was lively and cozy, and the service was friendly and attentive. They also have a nice selection of wines and drinks. Overall a very enjoyable experience — I left very happy and would definitely come back.

With only one Prix Fixe menu option, you are definitely coming here just for Steak and Frites, which they do well!
Each person can choose how to have their steak cooked.
Also comes with unlimited fries, so they come top you up if you want.

Service was great as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | College St. is officially the new favorite!
We used to be regulars at the Queen West location, but we finally made the move over to College St. for the first time tonight. Honestly? The bar has been raised.
The absolute highlights of the night were Tina and Celeste. These two are gems—fast, friendly, and just "real" people who know how to run a room. Usually, when you switch locations, you’re worried the vibe won’t be the same, but they made us feel like regulars the second we walked in.
The Breakdown:
• The Duo: Tina and Celeste are the ultimate dream team. They kept the wine flowing and the energy high without ever missing a beat.
• The Main Event: The steak was seasoned to perfection and the fries were bottomless gold, just like we remembered.
• The Showstopper: You have to save room for the Crème Fraise. The combination of the fresh strawberries and that buttery shortbread was absolutely yummy—the perfect light, crisp finish to a heavy steak dinner.
If you’re a Queen West loyalist wondering if it’s worth the trek to College: do it. Just make sure you ask for Tina.

Food was good, but very rushed, more like an assembly line. First thing they said is you 1:30 to eat. Brought our salads with our first drink order. Good enough food, but to rushed for us

Great spot on College Street for a solid steak. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the butter sauce was rich and flavorful. I also confirmed with the restaurant that the steak is halal. The fries were crispy and unlimited, which is a great bonus. Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and excellent value for the quality. Would definitely come back.

One of the best experiences of the city
fabulous service along with great steak and their delicious unlimited fries.

The music is nice and while Not being overwhelmingly loud it makes the spot fairly great for a cozy date.

Salad was phenomenal, bread and butter was tasty.
Totally recommended. I don't believe reservations was required but I made one anyway as it was our anniversary they added a cute touch to the desert which was nice

This is a great spot for anyone who, like me, gets overwhelmed by big menus. They serve just one main dish, and they do it well.
For the fixed price of $60, I think the food was very good. We ordered our steak medium-rare, and it was cooked perfectly. I personally would’ve liked a touch more seasoning, maybe just a little extra salt to bring out the flavor. The fries were fine, nothing special or fancy.
The starter salad was fresh, but I found the dressing a bit mild. Since it’s mostly greens and nuts, I think a bit more flavor in the dressing would elevate it.
All in all, the experience was very enjoyable. You get exactly what you come for: a good steak and a pleasant 90-minute dining experience.

Some restaurants feed your appetite — J’s Steak Frites feeds your fantasy. From the moment you step inside, there is an unmistakable Parisian spell to the room: low lighting, polished warmth, and that effortless je ne sais quoi that only a true French bistro can create. ✨🇫🇷

This is the kind of place where time slows, conversation softens, and dinner begins to feel like romance by design. A preset menu keeps things delightfully classic: a light salad to awaken the palate, followed by the star attraction, steak & frites, and a dessert worthy of the finale.

The Candied Walnut Salad was elegant and restrained: lightly dressed with just enough sweetness and crunch to hint at the richness to come. Then arrived the NY Strip Loin: tender, beautifully pink, and generously portioned, its depth heightened by the house tarragon butter sauce, a velvety pour of indulgence that draped every bite in herbaceous luxury.

The frites were the definition of Parisian perfection, whisper-thin, impeccably crisp, salted just so; the kind you keep reaching for long after you’ve said “one more.”

And dessert felt like a love letter from the pâtisserie: the Mille Feuille, impossibly delicate layers of flaky pastry with Madagascan vanilla bean cream and a whisper of raspberry; elegant, airy, and quietly unforgettable.

Dining at J’s Steak Frites doesn’t just resemble Europe. It transports you there. Intimate, polished, and beautifully crafted, it’s the kind of restaurant that turns an ordinary evening into a little moment of escape. 🌙🥂

Firstly due to my error in thinking I had booked the Queen St restaurant and turning up there, the staff contacted the College Rd branch to let them know we were coming and arriving late. Very grateful.

The starter salad and bread sets the palate up nicely for the main event. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. The fries, perfectly crispy. The secret sauce, lovely and light.

There’s no place to hide when you have only one item on the menu and the chefs certainly know how to cook steak here.

A thank you to all the staff who were extremely attentive and lovely.

Absolutely loved my experience here. Everything was on point - from the salad, to the steak, the dessert, and service. Their fries reminded me of the ones from a popular global fast food chain (in a good way), and refills are fried per order so it’s hot and crispy. Delicious!

Meant to book the other branch but accidentally had booked this one! And it was a great accident because I really liked the outdoor patio they have open for the summer! Very pretty, with a calming atmosphere, not crowded at all.
One menu, $60 per person. Salad was tiny but delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked to our liking and fries were crispy and fresh. Thank god they served ketchup as well 😁Met expectations and we would return.

They serve 1 item and serve that 1 item well. Steak and bottomless shoestring fries. Although, it was not the finest steak I have ever had, it was pretty good and cooked very well. At $60 I would have liked a little larger steak or have the fries cooked in duck fat. Their "secret sauce" was a bit too salty for me so I didn't use it.
This place was very good but I'm not sure that I would eat here again unless I was entertaining friends that only like meat and potatoes or if I was really craving fries.
