Alfie’s Sandwiches+Market is located at 36 Baldwin St in Toronto , ON and serves great food and drinks in Toronto
Our sandwiches are carefully built to honour each ingredient. While we don’t recommend modifications, as they can alter the intended flavour, our team will always do our best to accommodate when possible.
Update: Some sandwiches have more diverse flavour profiles than others. There is no question they taste FRESH. Every part. More indulgent and luxurious for sure. We're lucky to have so many great spots to choose from downtown. Alfie's is different and has its own thing going on in terms of experience of taste and texture profile. Would recommend 🙂
My friend and I both ordered the Torrino and unfortunately it just didn't hit the spot or leave much to be desired. With these kinds of sandwiches for me, it's a 'you know when you know' experience when something excites and satisfies during and even after the fact.
Though the bread is made fresh in-house and has a nice taste, we found it to be too soft and prefer a classic foccacia to compliment the savour and texture of the ingredients inside. We were also underwhelmed at how the flavours really noticeably lacked separation in the variety we got. Everything melded together in such a way that gave just one dimension to the experience of every bite. We couldn't taste the cheese, the meat was little in quantity (though it tasted excellent), and the arugula didn't do much for the sandwich. The spicy eggplant dominated the flavour. For $21 before taxes, we found it just didn't amaze and had too little prosciutto. These comments though are just our personal preference, by no means are these sandwiches *bad* tasting.. they are undoubtedly fresh and are made with care. The shop itself is clean and the operation is well-organized, friendly, and sufficiently staffed. I appreciate that they are open late, and it is for that reason that I will consider returning.
The aesthetics and the design of place is very pleasing. The lighting is good. The service is great, orders are fast, but the food isn't very good.
The sandwich is built to be "instagramable", aka a beautiful cross section of ham, cheese and spreads. When there is half an inch worth of ham and cheese and spreads in a sandwich, it is a true culinary artwork but also a brick of salt.
Half an inch worth of prosciutto in a sandwich is way too much. It overpowers the beautifully done bread, some of the glazes and other sauces and layers in the sandwich.
For the second half of the sandwhich, I took out the brick of prosciutto and it was almost perfect. The bread is a real star but the amount of filling and salt is sickening. It is an Italian sandwich with American proportions. Very pleasing to look at but quite heavy to eat.
Today I visited Alfie’s Sandwiches + Market on Baldwin Street after seeing several Instagram reviews, and I must say, the experience was exceptional. Although I am usually a meat lover, I decided to try the Mozzarella Caprese sandwich, and it did not disappoint.
The first thing that stood out was the excellent customer service and the neat, clean ambience of the place. Everything felt well-organized and thoughtfully run. My sandwich was made with freshly baked in-house bread, which was outstanding — soft, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The imported mozzarella tasted fresh and creamy, pairing beautifully with the lemon–basil crush and arugula, creating a bright and well-balanced flavor profile.
One small issue was the balsamic vinegar, which felt a bit heavy-handed. It was dripping off the sandwich and slightly overpowered the other ingredients. A lighter touch would have made the sandwich even better. That said, the overall taste and quality were still excellent.
Compared to a standard Subway sandwich, the price here is definitely higher. However, the quality of ingredients and craftsmanship clearly justify the cost. This is not fast food — it’s a thoughtfully prepared sandwich made with premium components, and that difference is noticeable.
Alfie’s does not offer much traditional dine-in seating, which is understandable given the layout. There is standing space available inside for customers who wish to eat on-site. However, since dine-in seating is limited, I did expect that some of that cost-saving might reflect in the sandwich pricing, which I didn’t really see.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely return to try more items from their menu.
No doubt about it — this is the best sandwich I’ve had in Toronto.
Everything on the menu is top-notch, and each sandwich is huge — one is easily enough for two people.
In the summer the line is so long you can’t even get in, and I finally got to try it this winter. The service is amazing too — everyone is so warm and friendly. I truly love this place. Highly recommend stopping by this shop when you’re at downtown of Toronto
They also have a little market that sells all kinds of Italian products — cheese buns, olive oil, chili oil — I was absolutely delighted browsing through it. Monalisa Bacio Sandwich is my favorite 🤩
My first time visiting this sandwich shop and I absolutely loved it! I honestly feel like in Italy. Prices might be higher but check out the portion and fresh ingredients quality they provide. It's very reasonable.
I love how their sourdough are freshly baked, sandwiches are bold flavours, and layers so stacked every bite feels like a Kensington Market masterpiece.
Please note: They don't offer public bathroom, no indoor seating, but there are benches outside. Paid parking on the street is available.
Here’s what I ordered
Alfie’s Roast Beef (Spicy) – House-smoked roast beef, sliced tomato, chilli oil, roasted pepper, baby arugula, rosemary & roasted aioli
Monalisa – 24-month Prosciutto Di Parma, truffle cream, burrata, lemon basil pesto, chopped pistachio, baby arugula
Prosciutto Royale – 24-month Prosciutto Di Parma, imported Mozzarella Di Bufala, lemon basil pesto, baby arugula, tomato, balsamic reduction
Highly recommended 👌
I loved the atmosphere at Alfie’s Sandwiches + Market – it’s so cozy and beautifully set up. I tried the Laura and the Chicken Romano, and both were absolutely amazing! They made them really quickly, which I appreciated, and the flavors were worth every bite. It is a little on the pricier side, but definitely worth it for the quality and experience. I’ll be coming back for sure!
Alfies is definitely a spot worth checking out if you’re into Italian-style sandwiches. The portions are generous, and the ingredients taste super fresh. We ordered the Monalisa and the Torino—both were delicious, but honestly, what stood out to me the most was the bread itself. It’s soft, light, and easy to bite into—you don’t need to chew forever, which makes the whole sandwich even more enjoyable.
The wait was around 10 minutes, which felt reasonable. Seating is very limited—there’s a small counter inside that fits maybe four people standing, and a few benches outside. Realistically, it’s more of a takeout spot. The sandwiches come in pizza boxes, which is a fun touch and makes them easy to share.
They also have a small supermarket section with Italian gourmet products, which is a nice bonus if you’re looking to grab something extra. Prices are a bit on the higher side for sandwiches, but with the size, quality, and freshness, I’d say it’s worth it.
We were lucky as were able to place the order before they put up the sign of sold out. I would suggest go early to make sure you are able to order. The prices are exorbitant . The line moved quick but the sandwich took around 30-40 minutes which is I think the norm here.
The sandwich was actually very delicious and I loved it. Will probably go again, the wait times are long so don’t come when you are running short on time.
Loved this place! Fresh ingredients and perfect balancing. I enjoyed every bite of it. The sandwich was huge and it can definitely be shared by two people, depending how hungry you are, of course! The place is definitely busy and you might have to spend 20-30 minutes waiting for your order, but it’s worth it. It might be worth trying ordering takeout from the website to save the time while you walk to the place🤩
Came here today for the first time. Great sandwiches, smelled incredible and tasted even better. I wanted to give a shoutout to the cashier Marva. She was so patient and professional. Didn’t rush us at all and answered all of our questions. It was super busy but we were in and out in less than 20 minutes. We were recommended to try the truffle chips as well and it was really good. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.
