Richmond Station

Richmond Station is a neighbourhood restaurant. We grew up with a passion for those romantic neighbourhood spots where you could reliably grab a bite to eat once a month, two nights in a row or whenever the fridge was bare. A neighbourhood spot means the owners are around most days, the staff maintain their position for years and there’s too many familiar faces to really just “be in and out”. Your favourite items never leave the menu and if they do, the chef wants to make it for you all the same

We tried the chef's choice tasting menu while visiting Toronto and celebrating our wedding anniversary. We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated right away at the high top communal table. We were really fortunate to be seated next to another couple also celebrating their anniversary. The company was perfect. The restaurant made us a little card with a hand drawn cartoon on the back. Very sweet touch. The food was outstanding. The attention to detail was exceptional. They were careful about dietary restrictions and the dairy free dessert we ordered was delicious. We complemented our dinner with the non-alcoholic flight. It was beyond anything we had seen before. It was clear the sommelier had given a lot of thought to the pairings. We had everything from kombucha, sparkling jasmine tea, NA wine, to one of their signature NA cocktails. No complaints. Would absolutely go back if we visit Toronto again.

This restaurant is a hidden gem! The atmosphere is simple yet lively & unpretentious. The menu offers creative (but not contrived) dishes & a very nice wine list including many lovely choices from Ontario. The only criticism would be about the shared plate, Duck Pâté, which we found too sweet, making it difficult to taste the liver. Our main course was the Salmon Confit, which was very nicely & simply prepared, with perfect grilled asparagus on the side. The highlight, however, was a special dessert, Chocolate Délice, topped with a scoop of créme fraiche ice cream surrounding some crunchy praline bits. It was a complex & memorable dessert, & well balanced due to the salty/sweet contrasts. The service was very friendly & professional, & we appreciated that the tip was included, as in most European countries. We can highly recommend this genuinely understated restaurant.

One of the best burgers I've had in a long time, something special about that beef. Dessert was amazing, rich but not too sweet. Polenta fries were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, very good. We were lucky they were able to seat us at 7pm on a Saturday without reservations.

We had Richmond Station’s chef’s menu last week and really enjoyed it. The highlight was an off-menu chilled white asparagus soup, which was creamy, bright, and surprisingly memorable. We also loved the first salad course with asparagus, confit egg yolk, cured pork, and wild leeks—it was fresh, balanced, and full of spring flavor. The rest of the menu was consistently strong too. This place has always been one of our favorites, will revisit from time to time. Highly recommended.

Richmond Station is a gem. Went in for early dinner and came away genuinely impressed.

Service was great from start to finish, and the food delivered across the board. The burger is the star here - absolutely delicious, and worth the trip on its own. The salad was fresh, the fries were excellent, and the fried mushrooms were solid. My colleague ordered the fish and raved about it. Drinks were beautifully presented, and the ambiance strikes a nice chilled-out vibe that works for both a quick business lunch and something more relaxed.

Two small critiques: the desserts were a bit lackluster compared to the quality of the rest of the meal, and I wish the menu was slightly larger, there's clearly talent in that kitchen and I'd love to see it stretched a bit further.
Overall though, a great spot with outstanding execution. That burger alone earns my highest recommendation.

Ranked No. 100 in Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants 2023.
Chef Car Heinrich’s elegant downtown farm-to-fork spot in downtown Toronto. It’s a neighbourhood restaurant offering elevated Canadian cuisine. You could go there to get a tasting menu, or simply a burger, which is one of their most popular items.

My friend took me to Richmond Station!!! In fact, it’s my first dining experience at Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants in 2023. The restaurant was completely filled up even around 10PM that night (maybe because it’s the holidays). Nevertheless, food came out fast, and the service was good. Overall, the food was good, but we were really thirsty afterwards for some reason.

The food at Richmond Station is really good, but not quite as inventive as in the early days. Oyster mushroom were fried perfectly, but the menu didn't mention the hot peppers in the dish, which we really dislike. Duck liver pâté was excellent, plenty for one person, not quite enough to share. The standout dish was dessert: a sunchoke millefeuilles that was original and absolutely delicious. Williams' attentive service was much appreciated as is the no tipping policy. How refreshing!

I popped in for lunch on a Monday based off of Google Review’s. Richmond Station was just as described, incredibly elevated food with a classy, easy and inviting atmosphere. I ordered the parsnip soup and crispy duck salad. Mic drop on the soup, grounded but light and the anjour pear was the perfect finish. Cashews were folded in the flavorful pieces of crispy duck and played king of the hill atop the most exciting bed of raw and pickled vegetables. I sat next to a woman that just came in for a beautiful plate of pastries. We noticed each other taking photos, and said hello with our eyes and slight bow of our heads. When she left she said “enjoy” I think she knew that I was and so did she. What a perfect encounter. Thank you for having me and sharing your love and craft of food with me.

Great experience 👍 service is topnotch (many thanks to Williams and team), the atmosphere is cool and welcoming, and most importantly, the food is delicious! Fun fact, tips are already included in the price of the food/beverages, which makes things much easier. I appreciate that latter touch.

I don’t know why this restaurant gets so many great reviews. There’s nothing bad about it, other than it’s over hyped, but it’s just an average restaurant. There’s nothing special here to warrant a five star review.

Richmond Station delivers exactly what you want from a great night out: excellent food and genuinely warm service. The duck liver pâté and beef tartare were standout starters - rich, balanced, and a perfect way to kick off the evening. The burger was cooked to perfection, packed with flavor, and paired beautifully with crispy French fries. A consistently solid spot that never disappoints.

Exceptionally friendly atmosphere, professional and engaging service and outstanding cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal and local. Great wine selection with some particularly interesting Ontario vintages. The whole dining experience here was a delight from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Richmond Station delivers an outstanding dining experience. The burger is absolutely delicious, easily one of the best I’ve had, and the fries come with a perfectly balanced, creamy mayonnaise that elevates the dish even more. The steak was cooked to perfection, full of flavor and beautifully executed. I also had the mushroom soup as a starter, which was rich, comforting, and incredibly tasty. Overall, the food was flawless — a solid 10/10. Highly recommended.

Our son and his wife got married at Richmond Station. Everything was top shelf, yet so relaxed and easy! The food was mostly appetizers and extremely varied....we definitely got full! My favorite was the seafood bar....until they put out the roast pork and started making super yummy rice/pork/raisin/hoisin lettuce wraps: then THAT was my favorite. The desserts, as well as the cake bar, was over the top....which is what my tummy did over my belt afterwards. The staff was lovely and engaging.
I also really appreciated that there were designated Male/Female washrooms.
Highly recommended!!
