Joni Restaurant
I attended the Amazonian tasting event at Joni Restaurant featuring guest chef Felipe Schaedler. The concept of the menu was intriguing and it offered a rare opportunity to experience ingredients and flavors inspired by the Amazon.
Some courses stood out. The Codorna (quail) was the highlight of the evening beautifully balanced, flavorful, and confidently executed. The Pão de Queijo was also excellent, and the cocktail was refreshing. The shrimp course (Moqueca de Camarões) introduced interesting flavors, though the texture was not particularly appealing. The scallop (Vieiras) was pleasant but the sauce felt somewhat restrained and didn’t fully carry the dish. The Pato no Tucupi did not work for my palate due to the strong duck flavor. The Black Cod with tucumã purée was creative and unfamiliar, though it didn’t quite translate into a satisfying dish for me. The Quindim dessert had pleasant coconut notes and a nice crunch, but felt somewhat underwhelming as a finale.
One of the most memorable moments was tasting an edible ant for the first time surprisingly bright and citrusy, almost like a squeeze of lemon. It perfectly reflected the adventurous spirit of the menu.
However, the service did not quite match the level expected for this type of dining experience. Utensils were placed directly on the table, my champagne glass had an odor, and the shared restroom setup felt uncomfortable. Considering the price point of the event, the overall service and attention to detail felt somewhat below expectations.
Overall, it was an interesting culinary exploration and I appreciate the opportunity to try something truly different.
Absolutely preposterous atmosphere. The music blasted me and my family from beginning to end. We had to shout loudly at each other to be heard. We also had to shout at the waiter. We asked if the music could be turned down twice to no effect. I then had a conversation with the manager who said she "would try". I pointed out that she, not the performer, ran the restaurant. The music went down a couple decibels for a short time before the wailing began again. What the performer lacked in talent he made up for in volume. I can't recall much about the food because the ambiance overtook all my senses.
This restaurant was absolutely flawless & I would highly recommend it to anybody looking to simply have a great time! I went here with my girlfriend during my stay at the hotel for Valentines Day. We went to the bar in the morning and were greeted by an amazing server by the name Mike. He was very passionate about his job which made the experience even better.
Later in the night we had dinner at Joni's for the pre-fixed Valentines menu. Everything was amazing, from the service, to the vibe & of course the food. All of the dishes came out in a timely manner and was plated very well which made good pictures for IG etc.
Overall a great time was had and you can take my word for it that you will not regret going to this spot!
Went for the first time to try the winterlicious menu. Walking in to the restaurant, the atmosphere was quite nice aside from the noise levels of other customers as it's a big open area.
The food presentation was nice but I was severely disappointed with my main duck rigatoni and my pumpkin creme dessert. I would not order these again. The Caesar salad appetizer and the mushroom soup were delicious. The steak ordered as medium rare was very rare so we requested to have it cooked more which took a lot longer than expected.
Paid $15 for non-alcoholic drinks that were not up to par for that price point.
Unfortunately I was not impressed by the service either as our waiter barely spoke to us and did not have a very friendly demeanor compared to other staff we saw.
I was expecting to only be at the restaurant for 1 - 1.5 hours total based on the preset menu but we ended up there for over 2 hours due to the long wait times for our food despite the place not being very busy during the lunch hours.
The only thing I can really say met my expectations was the washroom in the hotel which isn't located inside the restaurant.
Will not be returning to this restaurant after this disappointing experience especially considering the price.
We had an outstanding dining experience at Joni restaurant on January 26, 2026, the day after the snowstorm. This is our first time at Joni and it won't be our last after the excellent meal, service and atmosphere at Joni.
We opted for the 5-course Chef's menu for $95 per person and wow, the dishes were all outstanding -- artfully and well balanced flavours, ingredients were fresh and some dishes seem to have a japanese-inspired fusion. Each item that came out was well executed and delicious combination of flavours. I've posted some pictures. There was in-house milk rolls with miso-infused butter (yum), the lobster tail was delicious and the beef dish incredibly tender. There's also delightful surprise from the kitchen. We felt well satiated at the end of our evening.
The decor and atmosphere is just right -- although the space is huge with extremely high ceilings, the acoustics were excellent. The environment feels warm and intimate, tables were spread out so you don't feel cramped at all, or being overheard. Music volume was appropriate, just in the background and not intrusive. One can tell the space was well designed to promote a relaxing dining experience.
Service from the team was outstanding. Our server, Mohamed, was professional and friendly, but not intrusive. The service just added to the overall experience of our delicious meal.
We plan to return with some friends for the outstanding meal. The Chef menu really highlights the chef's creativity and imagination. The service and atmosphere are all bonuses, including the surprise. Joni has been added to our favourite fine dining choices.
Joni, located on the ground floor of the Park Hyatt in downtown Toronto's Yorkville area, is a culinary gem, earning a solid five stars. Chef Jonathan consistently delivers a phenomenal dining experience, crafting seasonal menus and hosting special events that keep us coming back. Our recent visit featured a five-course preset menu that was nothing short of exceptional, starting with some incredibly appetizing appetizers that set the tone for the entire meal. I opted for the cod fish, which was cooked to perfection and absolutely amazing. We began with a delicious French onion soup as well. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the filet mignon. The drinks were wonderful, and the entire dining experience was elevated by fantastic service from an attentive staff in a clean and well-maintained restaurant.
Joni is the Park Hyatt Toronto's restaurant. On the ground floor, close to the main entrance, it is an oasis of tranquility. Well cared-for plants separate it from the main hallway. The furnishing is modern, comfortable and the place is impeccably clean. The menu is not extensive, but every dish we tried was well-prepared and flavorful. Portions ae generous, so thing about sharing. Joni has a full bar and the bartender knows his trade! We enjoyed Joni for breakfast and lunch. The coffees were very good and laways fresh. The Park Benedict was very good, combining Canadian bacon and smoked salmon. While not listed, we got an excellent pair of fried eggs, over easy, with a couple of toasts and hashbrown. For lunch, the Wild Mushroom soup was outstanding, and a "small" portion of the Park Caesar was a whole meal. The beef Tartar was excellent too, as were the Fish & Chips. We shared an enjoyable apple crumble. The selection of wines by the glass was very good, and broad enough for all tastes. Another evening, we had an excellent Espresso Martini and a well-prepared Gin & Tonic, according to our specs.
This is our third time dining at this restaurant. We were also here on the day they first opened after the Park Hyatt Hotel renovation, where the restaurant is located. Our recent visit to celebrate a friend’s birthday was another wonderful experience. The food was fantastic, and the service was truly five-star.
The ambiance was perfect—despite the restaurant being packed, it wasn’t loud at all. We could actually enjoy a normal conversation without having to raise our voices. On top of that, they had live musical performances ranging from a jazz pianist to a full jazz ensemble. We didn’t expect it, but it was definitely a bonus to an already great evening.
Kudos to Chef Jonathan Williams—formerly of one of our favourite spots, Richmond Station—and his team. We really enjoyed the entire experience, from the atmosphere to the food.
We went to Joni in May for the Sakura Afternoon Tea service.
The ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant is so elegant and wonderful. The food was delicious and very filling as were the tea pairings.
The experience loses a point because my friend had told them our dietary restrictions and they served her an item with pork in it. When she pointed this out they initially denied that it was pork (which it clearly was) but with some pushing they agreed it was pork and brought out a dietary appropriate replacement.
The experience was positive overall but definitely expensive. For the price I hope in the future they will pay closer attention to dietary restrictions
A bit pricey but worth it. Presentation at brunch and dinner was excellent. Highly recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing as a splurge. 5 courses highlighting Canadian food products (most locally sourced) and a fine set of Canadian wines. Imaginative and delicious. Kudos to our server, Akil, who was so pleasant and knowledgeable. A delightful evening.
Dining at Joni on Sunday night was an absolute treat! Every dish was incredibly well executed, flavourful, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully crafted. The service was immaculate-attentive, warm, and professional. It was a memorable dining experience for me and my friend from start to finish. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a refined dining experience.
It's a very elegant place with outstanding service (really, I wouldn't say it without a solid reason).
Milk Buns and butter
To start, we were served with got milk buns with salted tomato butter as an amuse-bouche. The freshly baked milk buns were similar to brioche, but a bit lighter on texture, and the tomato butter was a first sign of the Joni’ chef’s creative approach.
Beef Tartare
I was a bit surprised to get beef tartare on a waffle, but the result was spectacular.
Hand-chopped beef with smooth egg yolk sauce has a pleasantly fresh taste due to the unique elderberry capers (it’s possible to pickle buds or berries from other plants, not just the commonly used Mediterranean variety).
The mildly sweet, yet overall pretty light einkorn waffle made beef tartare experience unforgettable.
My sincere compliments to the chef for such an amazing creation!
Halibut
This was the most delicious halibut dish I ever ate. Fantastically tender with some salty notes from the roe and delightful textural contrast from finderling potatoes (usually I don't eat potato, but this dish was a rare exception!)
Steak Frites
The striploin was cooked to the perfect medium-rare condition, but wasn't tender as I hoped.
Although, horseradish cream improved the taste, but it was a bit of a disappointment in comparison to the other culinary masterpieces on the menu.
Peach Torta
French-style peach tart - not too sweet, not too crispy, but rather nicely soft and smooth in texture, reminiscent of muffin dough, - elevated by airy crème fraiche and refreshed with mint leaves. It was a delicate fusion of American/Canadian and French bakery traditions.
Sea Buckthorn Crème
It was a version of Pavlova – a toasted meringue dessert - with white chocolate, a bit of raspberry and some Sea Buckthorn sauce which added great summer-freshing sourness.
The fantastic contrast of textures and a delightful play of different “shades” of sweetness.
Overall, it was a fabulous experience. The restaurant is highly recommended.
Our dinner at Joni was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable, warm, and attentive—setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.
We began with caviar, elegantly presented and full of delicate flavor. The poached lobster was tender and refined, while the lobster spaghetti delivered richness and depth in every bite. The highlight was the Wagyu beef—perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth, and beautifully plated.
Each course showcased remarkable craftsmanship, but it was the graceful, thoughtful service that truly elevated the experience. Joni blends elegance, flavor, and hospitality into a standout culinary experience.
Highly recommended.
Four fussy ladies enjoyed a fabulous night out at Joni Restaurant. We opted for the tasting menu which was very reasonably priced, and we all loved every bite! The ambiance and service were also spectacular. Also enjoyed the Chardonnay and a cocktail called "Philosopher's Charge" which was outstanding! We will definitely be back again.
A group of 12 arrived on a Monday evening without a reservation. Excellent service.
Lots of compliments on the Mushroom Soup, Scallops, Cod, Chicken and Pear Vacherin. So why only 4 stars? The Chef has to take a look at the Cheese Cappelletti. The sauce on the Cappelletti (which is made up of 2 sauces) is overwhelming - and not in a good way.
Lovely, calm atmosphere.
The restaurant Joni addresses the quandary of attempting to deliver quality food with too few people dining at lunch time . We've been there twice in the last month, and for the two hours we were there, the dining room was almost empty. Though the environment and service is excellent Friday's fish of the fish and chips was laden with too much batter. My wife's Quiche had little taste and a bottom crust like wet cardboard. Her accompanying salad had a lot of brown and mushy leaves that should have been discarded. The replacement caesar salad was overloaded with salad dressing . Joni needs a management shakeup.
