Allen's
What a delicious dinner of traditional Irish fare as we look forward to a festive St Patrick’s day! Here’s hoping that Toronto’s snow will have melted by mid-March and we will wear green along with happy smiles. Allen’s on the Danforth offers amazingly authentic Irish grub for those with hearty appetites and good taste.

I have been going to Allen's for many years and always had fantastic meals with above average service, however Friday night when my friend and I went for dinner this was not the case. Service was extremely slow, my salmon overcooked, my friends french fries overcooked and the fennel salad was absolutely dreadful. In addition I had specifically asked for no pepper on my food and both the salmon and fennel salad were loaded with pepper. I recognize that they had their steak festival going on and while I cannot speak of the quality of the steaks they were serving as I didn't order steak I can say when I want a good steak dinner I will go to Chris Ruth's or another similar high end restaurant where I know both the food and service will be exceptional which Allen's, even at their best, simply doesn't compete with from a service perspective although the price point was pretty much the same as what I pay at Chris Ruth's. When I pay $150+ for a steak dinner I expect not just my steak to be on point but also service. Regardless, I was extremely disappointed Friday night not just from the poor quality and over cooked food but also service wise. I'm not sure if I will return again or not due to this bad experience.
A neighbourhood institution with its extensive selection and stunning indoor patio.
Went here for the steak festival and they had steaks from all over the place. Got the sirloin and ahi tuna, with sides of double baked potato and brussel sprouts. Cuts were thick and cooked ok. Standout was definitely the potato with its milky cheesy mix.
Prices are gastropub level. Service is friendly and efficient. Vibe is casual lively. Great for families and friends. While I found the food overall just ok, the experience was a good one.

Came here for steak fest in February and it did not disappoint.
Ordered a variety of steaks from rib eye to porterhouse and each were delicious. We also had their onions rings which were some of the best I've ever had! Super crispy yet soft on the inside.
The one dish that we had high expectations for but was disappointed were the duck fat potatoes, they were super hard and tasted very stale.
Came here for Feburary Steak Festival and it didn't disappoint.
My friend booked a reso for 9 and there was a bit of a wait for our 8pm reso. This place was packed and I could see why.
We did family style and ordered a striploin, ribeye, porterhouse and few sides. Their onion rings are one of the BEST I've ever had: super crispy and airy. The only dish that I wouldn't recommend was the duck fat potatoes which were too hard and not was I expected. The other star was their caesar salad which was delicious. Steaks were all really good and nicely cooked. I think this place is underrated.
Highly recommend and would come back for their normal menu or for steak fest again.

Steak Festival is something I look forward to every year, and I’m so happy it’s finally February again!
We ordered the 42 oz porterhouse for $122, and the value is absolutely amazing. Perfectly cooked, great quality, and more than enough to share.
Even the kids loved it, which says a lot. Such a satisfying steak experience — can’t wait for next year’s festival already!

Every year a group of friends, from university, gather at Allen's for a reunion dinner. The location, atmosphere, food, and service continue to be excellent, which is why we keep returning. While Allen's is in my neigbourhood, this group of friends travel quite a distance to attend this gathering. No one minds the travel as they all love the place. It's like an old cozy friend welcoming you home. We'll be back next year.
We were looking for a quick dinner before seeing a concert on Oct 2nd. On this early evening, it wasn’t busy yet. We were asked if we had reservations, which we didn’t. Luckily, he was able to give us a table that was reserved for a bit later.
Allen’s has the feeling of a local pub where neighbours meet up after a hard day. It got very busy, very quickly shortly after we got there.
We began with the Calamari, it was pretty good. We then had the Lager Halibut & Chips and the Tamworth Pork Rib Chop. Our dinner was completed with their own Banana Cream Pie.
The pork was cooked to perfection, it was absolutely delicious as was the orzo. The Halibut was more doughy than we prefer but once we took the dough off, there was a yummy piece of Halibut under there.
Our waitress Deb was fun and attentive!

Allen’s on the Danforth has one of the best patios in the city. perfect for a sunny afternoon or a chill evening. The food is definitely a step above your typical pub fare. The burger was fantastic, fish and chips hit the spot, and the polenta fries were a standout. The lobster roll was tasty but could’ve used a bit more lobster, and the Guinness cake was a great way to finish off the meal. Service was friendly, though a bit slow at times, but overall it’s an excellent spot for great food and atmosphere.
What a fantastic spot for an easy, quiet dinner on a Sunday evening! While we probably would have enjoyed the patio, it was very relaxed and quiet inside.
The staff were quite friendly, and extremely considerate with respect to our food allergies and restrictions.
The calf liver and onions were wonderful, and the portions were very generous, while the flank steak salad was very satisfying and savoury.
Do yourself a favour, and drop by Allen's...
(We just might see you there!)
I visited Allen’s last night for dinner and had a really lovely experience. We were seated on the back patio, which is fully shaded by the branches of a gorgeous giant tree—offering a cozy escape from the bustle of the Danforth. It’s a refreshing outdoor dining option compared to the typical sidewalk patios in the area.
We ordered the calf’s liver, served in a balsamic glaze with grilled onions and green beans. I’m not usually a fan of liver, but I appreciated how the balsamic and onions complemented the dish. My dining companions raved about it so if you like liver, this is a good choice.
The lamb shank was a standout. It was tender, flavourful, and came with a big helping of champ (mashed potatoes). It’s one of those comforting, well-executed dishes worth coming back for.
We also ordered the open-faced smoked salmon sandwich on soda bread with dill cream cheese and onions. It was fresh and satisfying, though I found myself wishing for a few briny notes — maybe some capers or a bit of fresh dill to brighten it up.
Drinks-wise, the beer list is solid, with a nice mix of local options and classics.
All around, a great spot with welcoming service, good food, and a backyard-style patio that makes you want to linger. I’m sure I’ll be back.
We came in for February Steak festival and had a lovely time. We ordered the Caesar salad, frites, porterhouse steak, button mushrooms, and coconut cream pie.
The Caesar salad was simple but delicious - it was perfectly dressed and a great size to share between two people.
The frites were great - they don’t come with any sauce but we asked for ketchup and mayo on the side
The porterhouse was perfectly done. We asked for it medium rare and it was excellent
The button mushrooms were the biggest surprise for me. They were exceptional and had a really lovely sauce that we ended up using for the frites and steak as well
The coconut cream pie was very light and a good way to end the meal
Our server was amazing. He was very attentive and we were never waiting around for anything.
Overall we had a great time and would definitely return for the regular menu
I’ve never had such an unprofessional and dismissive experience at local restaurant.
I ordered a medium-rare NY Striploin Kobe beef ($140), and it was served completely blue (raw). When I politely pointed this out, the owner flatly told me to "go find another steakhouse" instead of apologizing or offering a proper fix. The restaurant insisted on simply recooking the same steak after it had already rested—which is not how a premium steak should be prepared.
They never offered a replacement and never offered to remove it from my bill. After a frustrating and time-consuming back-and-forth with the manager, he finally admitted that other customers had also complained about their meals. His solution? Taking two cocktails off my bill—but still charging me full price for the steak I didn’t eat.
To make matters worse, when I tried to return another night to see if they could make things right, they canceled my reservation and told me they didn’t want my business.
Our total bill that night was $410 for two people. This was meant to be a special dinner, and instead, it was a complete disaster. If everything is perfect, you might have a good time—but if anything goes wrong, expect arrogance, zero accountability, and to be shown the door.
Plenty of amazing steakhouses value their customers—this isn’t one of them. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere.
This is a wonderful neighborhood pub / Gem 💎 ⭐️💎 serving great food, with a lovely patio at the back. In particular, we enjoy their “steak festival” each year. This time, we enjoyed dry aged thick cut large Tomahawk steak, dry aged USDA Prime (apologies….) rib steak, fennel slaw (delicious), oysters Rockefeller, sauted rapini, duck fat potatoes (too dry). Everything was delicious except the (dry potatos). Staff are helpful and friendly, Service was excellent, Thank you!😊
My friend who introduced me to this place, made a reservation to Allen's for another little get-together. So I arrived, and the hostess asked me if I wanted to sit inside or outside, and I said inside, because it's not too too warm outside on the terrace. So she directed me to a booth, and it was at the very front, so I asked for a bit closer to the main dining area maybe, and she directed me to another booth which had two people sitting next to it. So I sat down, waiting for my friend, and realized that the two gentlemen next to me were a bit loud and dropping quite a few F-bombs. So I asked to sit to another table, and Nolan, the server, found me a really good table, and I had a wonderful lunch there.
I ordered a Bloody Caesar, and he order a pint of Guinness. For lunch, I had the Butter Chicken for the first time, and he had the Sandwich, which he had before. The Butter Chicken was really tasty. It came with rice and naan bread. And then I decided to have a glass of Pinot Grigio with my lunch, and he had a cup of tea after lunch. Really good service, very professional, very enjoyable, and we must return.
