Sunnys Chinese
Went to Sunnys for a colab they had with Hexagon - a Michelin starred restaurant from Oakville.
Both chefs collaborated on a tasting menu with cocktail pairing included and my experience was awesome.
Cocktails were creative and full of flavour. Food was very good and the dishes created by the chef of Sunnys were very creative and highly experimental. I believe he is constantly trying to improve and trying out new things and the result is most likely a combination of ingredients you’ve never eaten before.
The atmosphere in the back patio is super nice and has an awesome comforting restaurant feeling. Service was attentive and on point. Would recommend and definitely will return.
This restaurant has been on my list for such a long time and I finally got to go and try it for myself! The food was really good and delicious (no doubt about that)! The service was great as well. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and recommended items on the menu that were best sellers. My friend and I were lost trying to find this place and one of the staff was so helpful that she was staying on the phone with us the entire time while giving us directions and was willing to go outside and come find us. Eventually, we found the place but it was such a nice touch to have! I am giving this place 4.5 stars. The only thing though is that the place gets too loud that it's hard to have a clear conversation (because the restaurant is pretty small). Other than that, I would come here again and highly recommend this place!
Finally made it out to Sunnys with a larger group of friends. Had a great time. The food was all very good although I wouldn't say there was any stand out must have dishes. It's all up to personal preference. Tried a lot of the dishes and everything was consistently good. The drinks and service were both amazing.
Everything was absolutely delicious, and topped off with excellent service. The vibe is very chill, even though it was loud, and the layout allows for patrons to see them working in the kitchen. My favourite was the Typhoon Shelter Squid , deep fried with the texture highlighted by the crunch of the chilli. There was so much flavour in everything, even the charred caraflex cabbage and chrysanthemum Spinach.
This was easily the best meal we had in Toronto. We did the pre-fix menu, which was SO much food. Even outside the wild number of dishes, the portions themselves were so generous.
The short ribs, dan dan noodles, spinach, orange chicken, all amazing. However, by far the highlight was the black sesame french toast. I'll be thinking about that dish for a long time, was one of the best desserts I've had.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the vibe of the restaurant was lovely. Sincerely hope to return soon!
We had high hopes for Sunnys Chinese since we really enjoyed Mimi’s and Linny’s, which are from the same team. Unfortunately, Sunnys was disappointing. The service was not friendly, and the food was mediocre at best. Some dishes were far too salty, while others didn’t stand out at all. Overall, it didn’t come close to the quality or experience of their other restaurants. I’d personally skip this one.
This was a second visit for one couple. È decided on tasting menu having it recommended by the server. The couple had the tasting menu last time and enjoyed it; one year ago. Well this place has changed for the worst. Portions are tiny. We left hungry. From waitress’s comments we are far from the only ones to comment on meal. The food was ok at best. 90$ for tasting menu is way overpriced. She called the manager over who asked if she can bring us another plate. We reminded her that we had just been served and ate our dessert. She basically said “ok then” and walked away.
If you're familiar with Kensington Market, then you probably already know about this place. However, if you haven't explored KM, then you need to find this place 1st. That's easier said than done as its hidden down a dark hallway away from the street. You will quite easily miss the small hand written sign saying "Sunny's this way". You just need to follow someone into the hallway then, you'll see a small neon sign in Chinese, then open the door next to it hoping the restaurant will appear on the other side.
Once you finally find this place, make sure that you have a reservation because it's usually full ;)
If you successfully find your way to a table, sit back, order whatever and relax knowing that whatever you ordered will taste amazing!
Order to share and ask the servers for suggestions. They will make sure that you don't order too much and are satisfied.
I was looking forward to our birthday celebration dinner at Sunny's. The food was fabulous, but the overall dining experience was very upsetting. Throughout the meal, i had water dripping from the ceiling onto my head, arms, leg and who knows, possibly the food. When I mentioned this - twice, to the wait staff they ignored me and said, 'it's an old building.' Is that how a restaurant of this calibre and high price treats their customers! It shows total arrogance and lack of respect on the part of management for their customers. The evening was ruined and I won't be going back and in fact, will tell everyone about this experience and how Sunny's success has made them forget that their diners should be number one!
