Hokkaido Ramen Santouka
If it wasn’t for the fact that it was cold out, I kind of would have went somewhere else. The food itself wasn’t bad. However, being told they had accessibility (the entrance was not accessible at all) plus the wait time to order being pretty long and then the additional wait for the food, plus the limited food options, it just ended up throwing me off.
When you ask for a physical menu it does display an allergy/food restriction list at the beginning, which I thought was great!
The food was good and really filling, I liked the flavour, the noodles were a bit hard but that’s okay. It was a bit pricey for the black garlic ramen but I understand the price considering it’s black garlic. The atmosphere was actually nice and intimate for a late night hang with friends. Would I ever come here again though? Not really unless they get one of those plastic ramps to make it accessible.
Over all a 3.5 out of 5!!!
Another great spot for ramen in Toronto. The ramen is great and the service was also very good.
Good for those looking for a tasty ramen and short on time.
I ordered the shio ramen since I felt like a lighter soup on this day. The soup was light and creamy but very flavourful.
Came with bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, green onions, a slice of Naruto fish cake, pork cha shu, and one small red pickled plum.
Perfect for lunch. The noodles were done just right and as you can see in one of the photos two types of peppers on the table. White pepper and shichimi pepper.
One thing to note is the noodles served here are egg noodles which is not what most places serve.
This location has been around for many years and was listed in the Michelin Guide back in 2017. Worth a visit when you are in the area which is just a short walk from the Eaton Centre.
I recently visited this ramen restaurant located right across from Harvard University, and it was a great experience! The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was delicious—definitely worth the visit. Plus, if you download their app, you get a free appetizer, which is a nice touch. The only downside is that their meat options are a bit limited, and most of the dishes feature a pork-based broth. Still, overall, it's a solid spot for a tasty meal!
Best ramen broth I have ever tasted. It was just the right amount of salt and umami. The veggie apps were also very delicious, the piri bamboo dish was a bit too spicy but not really an issue when I washed it down with a glass of yuzu lime sake.
I also like that their menu offered smaller rice bowl options. I ordered the ikura bowl and it wasn’t enough to stuff me but just enough for a 10pm dinner before bed time.
Staff were friendly and service was very efficient. We all got our food around the same time. We finished off with skewers of dango and it was made fresh, the dangos were very chewy and the side of azuki paste added a subtle sweetness to it.
Can’t wait to come back again for the ramen!
Forewarning restaurant is tiny but I was ordering takeout thankfully. I ordered a small bowl of shoyu ramen which came to roughly $17. I’m not one that needs a massive bowl of ramen but getting one small 2” strip of pork and 1” slice of fish cake was on the lean side. I’m from SF and can tell you for that price, you’re going to get double the amount of pork and fish cakes. The noodle portion and soup were decent though.
Oh wow, nothing screams “authentic dining experience” like a rat casually strolling through the restaurant, huh?
Really adds that extra flavor to the ramen, I guess.
I mean, who needs hygiene when you’ve got… vermin?
You’d think a Japanese restaurant would care a little more about cleanliness
but hey, maybe rodents are part of the new omotenashi these days?
Seriously though, this place should’ve been shut down yesterday.
Serving food in that condition is not just nasty, it’s straight-up dangerous.
Congrats! you’ve officially turned ramen into a biohazard.
You’d better check your bill carefully when you pay. My dish was $16.50, adding to 18% tip, it came to $24.99. When I challenged it, she (Suttimas) pretended she charged me for wrong table. When I asked for receipt, she refused to give a paper receipt. It’s very deceptive and dishonest.
There’s just something different at Santouka. Their lunch special with a large serving of Ramen was $25 with tax. It comes with a Shoyu ramen, three gyozas and an egg. Well worth it! The service was terrific, quick and always filling up my water! The aftertaste of less salt is noticeable versus other ramen places. I really enjoy the shoyu offering and the noodles were so so good. You can get in and out in about an hour, comfortably without feeling rushed. It was a essentially a decade in between visits here, I don’t think that will happen again!
I went to this ramen shop with my wife and two daughters. The ramen was excellent. The wait staff are also nice and friendly. You can order different sizes of ramen bowls depending on how hungry you are, which is great because my daughters weigh less than a 100lbs so they can’t eat a large bowl of ramen. The small bowl was plenty for them. We will be back again the next time we are visiting Toronto.
In the UK we don’t have a lot of choice of ramen so visited this lovely little restaurant not far from the Eaton centre in downtown Toronto. We got seated no problem, the waitress who served us was lovely and very helpful as we didn’t quite understand the menu. The food was outstanding. Would definitely recommend anyone looking for a decent bowl of ramen to visit this place
