Rol San Restaurant
Popular late-night spot known for ample plates of Chinese food, fast dim sum & plastic table cloths.
"DIM SUM ALL DAY" everyone walking around chinatown has probably seen the giant sign, well my train of thought is that they've got signage money which is half the battle.
Ordered a bunch of stuff, posted the photo minus the beef fries rice ($13.99) that wasn't on the dim sum menu.
Favorites: Beef fried rice, Shrimp dumpling, xia long bao, taro puff stuffed with pork and minced pork in bean stick rolls. The fried rice was such a huge portion, really flavorful and quite a bit of beef for the price.
Misses: beef and rice in veg roll, turnip cake. The roll was too thick and the turnip cake didnt really have a lot of flavor.
The soysauce provided on the table is pretty salty so careful not to drizzle it everywhere.
The $1.50 tea had a nice aroma, surprised it costs money since it was given without being ordered.
15% gratuity included and slight discount I think if you pay cash.
3 star for service cause the waitresses never really seem to say anything...but I think for asian restaurants usually the worse the service the better the food and this place definitely fits the stereotype.
Update for 31 August 2026: ordered a takeout of the beef fried rice I got the first time....and holy holy this was terrible! Like a complete different chef cooked it or something! The rice wasn't even "stirred" properly, lots of white clumps unlike the first time where it was perfect! The beef was also tough and dry. This was just a huge disappointment and I seriously hope it's just the issue of a new chef on the line (somehow without quality check?).

Came here with high hopes to get authentic dim sum. Disappointed to find out that they don't serve dim sum with traditional dim sum carts. Bamboo steamers were reinforced with...you guessed it. plastic rims. Shrimp dumpling was good. Everything else was honestly just so so. I would recommend all the shrimp dishes since their shrimps are fresh.

We were looking for dimsum and the sign up front beckoned effectively! We ordered 6 dimsum plates and they came promptly. The chicken feet was good, also the hacao, and siu mai and mushroom dumplings. The pork and beef ribs were too salty. Service was quick and friendly

When it comes to dim sum in Toronto, I don’t care about trendy interior design, fancy plating or modern fusion twists. I want authenticity, speed & perfectly executed comfort food. Rol San has been an absolute staple on Spadina for decades & even after their move down the street, they still deliver exactly what matters.
The atmosphere is loud, hectic, and completely unpretentious - just as a proper dim sum hall should be. It’s a bustling environment where the turnarounds are fast, the tea is piping hot & the focus is 100% on the kitchen's execution. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic candle-lit dinner, go somewhere else. But if you want exceptional, traditional Cantonese-style small plates, you line up here.
Their pushcart style might be gone, but the made-to-order menu ensures everything hits your table steaming hot. The Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) are the ultimate test for any dim sum chef & Rol San nails it - the crystal skin is thin and translucent yet structurally sound & the shrimp filling is plump, snappy & perfectly seasoned. Their Siomai is dense and savory & the deep-fried taro puffs have that flawless, lacy, crispy exterior without being greasy. My absolute personal favorite, though, is the rice noodle rolls with BBQ pork - silky texture and excellent sweet soy sauce balance.
The service is highly efficient. The staff moves with incredible velocity, taking orders and dropping dishes with precision. They aren't there to make casual small talk; they are there to manage a high-volume crowd and keep the food fresh.
It’s reliable, timeless & consistently hits the spot every single time, whether you're curing a hangover at 11 AM or having a massive family feast. A true Toronto institution.

if you order this, you just get all of that fat. I have no idea why people choose to come here with low quality. I saw many table is empty but server give us sit in front of the washroom !!! why you have a lot of table ? also the price is high if you compare with quality of food what you get. And last thing, every bill they charge tips already, it’s like scammer I know a lot of people didn’t check bill and just guest much they earn from these bill. Server only brings your bill without telling about service included. Server just only bring your food how come they get tip 15% ?
one more thing, they don’t have water for free then every table they charge tea for 3$ each person. I have no idea how can be really scammer
If owner read about it just please think about it. You try to earn more money at when we take a seat tea 3$ each + 15% tip
even we didn’t order a lot. This is not fair for customer. After you move location I’m not sure you buy this building or not but you need to keep your business going well. I’m a regular customer. And I don’t think I will back here again.
I would say you can go somewhere else, if you add 10$ more each you can get buffet easily
