Square Boy
Family Owned and Operated Burger Spot on the Danforth Since 1964!
I took the kids out for lunch yesterday and it was a complete disaster the homemade burgers or crumbly and the chicken kabob tasted like cardboard like it was cooked over and over and over again.
Such a total disappointment from what it was to what it has become.
I don't mind paying more but the quality should stay the same but it has gone down towards 50%. This was unacceptable. I will never return and bring my kids to this dive ever again.
Sad to say this place used to be a great place but it was turned now into a dive in the food is really incredibly deplorable.
I would not recommend this to anyone and I will definitely get a hold of the Toronto medical health unit that takes care of these issues. No one needs to become sick over this low level of quality food.
If you are deciding to eat there you're eating at your own risk and you have been cautioned.
Last thing you want to do is spend your whole evening and emerge for the next 16 to 17 hours.
THIS WAS A COMPLETE FAILURE!!

Hit this spot for some seriously delicious Greek food! The grilled chicken skewers were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, paired with crispy golden fries, a fresh Greek salad loaded with feta, and a creamy tzatziki that brought everything together. Every bite was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. Great portions, great quality, and definitely a place worth coming back to when you’re craving authentic Greek flavors. Highly recommend! 🇬🇷🔥🍴
Firstly, to those complaining about the price going up, are you kidding me? Barely gone up while other restaurants have doubled. The service and food is still top notch and you will not get a better souvlaki on a bun anywhere, and it will be double the price of square boy. Best value in the city, hands down. Also check out the fries and onion rings.
This is a Danforth institution, I have been here many times, tried everything on the menu, but my favourite is still the pork souvlaki on a bun with fresh fries and gravy. Everything is prepared as soon as you order it with fresh ingredient, the place is very old school they only take cash! The wait is short, but the seating can be limited. I love the food so I will be back again soon.

Square boys definitely has an old school diner vibe - Love it. They have an original Pacman box right in the front- takes quarters so bring your change.
The gentleman taking my order was so pleasant and easy to chat with. Everyone in that restaurant was on point - as busy as it was - no mixups, nothing burnt or soggy. Fresh veggies and my Gyro was the best I've had in years. I forgot to order extra tzatziki, but for once I didn't even have to. They did hold back- loved it.
Make sure you come with cash. I heard their Chicken Ceasar is where it is... so Sq Boys, I will definitely be back for the whole entire dinner. I love that they're still in business, I haven't been to Square boys since back in H.S in 2006 when I used to order just fries. Everything is still awesome.

Square boy used to be a great place to eat. This is not the case anymore the food is a poor quality and the souvlaki dinners are very not authentic. The meat is precooked and dry and the fries are super greasy. If you don't care about quality and your health then this place is for you.
I do not understand these high five-star ratings but in my experience this is not the case and that's 100% truly a fact.
Everyone in there in the most part appears to be miserable especially the cashier with a gray hair and has a no care attitude just wants to collect cash. By the way they only accept cash please take a note of that. There is no exceptions cash only.
I tried it with my family just for the hell of it and we were truly disappointed in every aspect of the service this is not the reflection of what we see on the reviews there is definitely something wrong here.
Like I said in the past it once upon a time it used to be great but not any longer and I've heard that from many friends of mine as well so I don't understand these high ratings how people enjoy this place and leave a high rating review. I simply don't understand.
I do not recommend this place.
I have been going to square boy as long as I can remember. Last few visits I found that my food wasn't as good or fresh. I still gave it a shot as I couldn't resist the smell walking by. I informed the new very young lady about my last issues with the food. I asked her for a fresh chicken skewer as I watched her attempt to put a stale hard looking one on my pita. Instead of working with me as I asked politely with a smile, she told me that the hard stale overcooked again skewer was fresh. She angrily put the stale one on. Rolled it up agressively as if I insulted her. I tried for the last time to eat the pita and the chicken again was hard and overcooked. I'm not sure why the girl didn't want to give me a fresh one. As I saw and pointed to the fresh ones on the grill. I told her this was my last try at it and she just didn't care to work with me to hold onto a place that has had so many food memories for my family and friends. She should be taught customer service. If she had just given me fresh food I would have gone back. But no. She didn't care. Square boy has officially gone down hill. Very heartbreaking to me. As it was always an affordable, fresh and great food. Staff has always been happy, fun and so kind. Especially the counter staff who have many times made my day. Other than this young lady I still believe in the rest of the staff. No one wants to have a hard piece of chicken that frays and can't bite into. Also found a big bone in my previous order of chicken pita. Which I didn't think was possible being white meat and finding a whole wing bone.
I love this place so much. I have to try to fight myself from grabbing my order there (banquet burger or chicken souvlaki on bun or pita + onion rings) as often as I would like. I've both dined here getting cozy in their booths and grabbed to go. They have (limited) parking which is nice. I hope this spot is here forever. Heads up: Cash only.
Square Boy at over a year ago was great! Now, ONLY CASH and food has gone up by $2 a item and full of MSG. Souvlaki other items..
Chicken Souvlaki chunkcs has been reduced by 30% and the burger buns look like a happy meal at McD's. The home made Bihar is 50% BREAD CRUMBS and falls apart with the first bite.
Grey haired cashier is so Rude and never smiles taking your order.
If your NOT Greek, very Boast.
Besides, area has gone bad, to many Drug Dealers in the area.
It is very unsafe for kids.
To all consumers , your better off going to o a Sobeys and for under $10 make your own meal Ina minute.
This place has been a staple on the Danforth for years. Ordered the Chicken Souvlaki dinner and it came with a gigantic portion of fries for under $20.
They also serve some delicious burgers, just make sure to order the homemade burger. Rustic diner vibes on the inside with limited seating.
Delicious homemade burgers made to order. Nostalgic decor and no fuss service. Clearly had a steady stream of regular customers. I kind of expected it to be hipster based on the branding and the area but actually the complete opposite, feels like it's not changed in 40 years and sometimes that's very much for the best.
After decades of the same guys making the same food at the same prices… the inevitable changes have finally caught up, but they’re not all bad.
Yes you won’t see the familiar old guys behind the counter, and they are missed.
Prices came up a bit, but not by much. So did they sacrifice size or quality? Not that I can tell, in fact they improved on what was already my favourite home-burger by going with a smaller and better bun. The bread to beef ratio is finally right.
Cash only btw - which translates to lower costs for them, and saving for us - which I love to see)
Also, don’t confuse the home-burger with regular burger. Get the home-burger.
