Rhum Corner
Can't say much for inside as we sat outside for the duration of our stay. For the brief time I was inside it looked nice.
We tried a lot of dishes and drinks and everything was great. No issues at all.
My recommendations would be the salt cod patty. I'm upset I didn't take another one home.
The Oxtail and bean sauce plate was probably the best Oxtail I've ever had.
Cashew chicken was good also....but the Oxtail...chefs kiss!
OK, was hesitant to give this place a 5 star review because I loved the good drinks, the good food, the good vibes. It was a great find from my friend, and we so enjoyed it!
Had the Jungle Bird and Rhum punch, both of which I'd order again.
We had....banana frites, Griot, something else, and the Haitian spaghetti. The way my friend described it, I'm not sure I would have ordered but she said we should try it...and every time I think about spaghetti, it's this Haitian spaghetti that gets me salivating. TRY IT. That sauce is like nothing else I've personally tried.
Downside is it's not open Sundays! Will be a go-to for sure!
I was a bit skeptical when I saw the menu as it seemed pretty standard. However, as the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover. When I sampled the Accra and Grio I was blown away. Really tasty, well seasoned and succulent pork! I will definitely be back!
Move over all my usual Caribbean go-to’s — and trust me, I’ve tried plenty because I’m always craving Caribbean flavours. I officially have a new favourite. Yes, it’s in the west end and a bit of a trek for us east enders, but it’s absolutely worth it. We went to celebrate my son’s birthday, and he chose it knowing we’re all serious foodies and love Caribbean cuisine. To share, we ordered the salt cod patties, griot, tuna ceviche and oxtail, and every single dish was outstanding. We were so impressed that we added the macaroni as an afterthought after our server said it was one of their favourites.
Each table comes with pickliz, a spicy slaw-style accompaniment that’s perfect as a topper, but fair warning as it packs serious heat (and we all love spice). Beyond the food, the service was exceptional. Our 2 servers were so friendly, attentive and genuinely helpful with recommendations. The vibe is hip and lively, with beautiful Haitian art throughout and Kompa music setting the tone.
Our only small issue was that the back table felt a bit tight for four, but it was a quiet night so they graciously moved us without hesitation. I also found it a little too dark for decent photos, so no food shots this time around.
The pricing is very fair, the portions are generous, and the Red Stripe is ice cold. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better night out.
Insider tip: cross the street afterwards and grab a nightcap at The Cocktail Bar to end the evening perfectly.
