Takja BBQ House
If you'd like to introduce a child to cuts/quality of meats they likely can't afford, this is the way to do it. The restaurant is very comfortable. Each booth creates good separation. The servers were very friendly and accommodating of our 8 and 10yo. The fermented bean paste is amazing.... All of the unmentioned add ons are delicious and ask the servers for their recommendations for what's in front of you. We did waygu striptoin, dry aged ribeye, hanger steak and A5 ribeye. The top choice of all those was the Australian Waygu striptoin. Peaches and cream bingsoo was a fun and delicious desert to share. Prepare to pay for luxury however
A lovely experience. We did the tasting menu - it was $135 plus extra $10 if you want all beef. The meat was flavourful and tender - they did a great job grilling it. The sides were delicious as well - refillable! The first course of apps were all very good as well. Surprisingly the mushroom rice was so good! The star of the show? The peaches and cream shaved ice.... It had mascarpone, crumble and bits of peaches in it (seasonal!). The staff were also very sweet and have a little red bean jello thing with a candle to celebrate my birthday. Overall a wonderful time! I was pretty stuffed and had to be rolled out...
Side note - parking is paid street if you can find a good spot. We were running behind 15 min, called ahead to let them know and they were fine with it and held our table - just said it would eat into our dining time which was fine as the courses came out pretty quickly.
Went with my sister-in-law for dinner tonight. Since we had a reservation, we were seated right away. Menus were brought out to us and we were greeted asking how our day was going.
We didn't take too much time deciding what to order and went with the Hansang option.
Great variety of a whole set meal, including dessert.
All the seafood part of the platter had different flavours and tasted refreshing!
The seafood pancake was crispy on the exterior, soft inside, with small pieces of seafood in it.
Compared to other Korean BBQ spots in the city, the staff here grill the meat to a perfect medium rare, cut it into bite size pieces, and put on your plate so it doesn't get overcooked.
They paid attention to our pace of eating and timed the next meat to grill so that it was ready and we didn't have to wait for the next piece.
One of the staff came by to have a little conversation and had recommendations of how to enjoy/pair the meat. We appreciated it even though we are Korean, so are very familiar with eating "ssam"
Amount of food is very reasonable -- we actually couldn't even finish the Mushroom Stone Pot Rice since we were getting full.
This option also comes with a Bingsoo for dessert so it was a great way to end the meal!
Service and hospitality was excellent! They definitely know what they are doing in terms of timing, clearing empty plates, topping up water, and all the little details.
Only minus (no fault of the restaurant) is that there doesn't seem to be any parking in the area, so we did end up parking a 5-10 mins walk away.
My partner and I came to Takja to celebrate our anniversary and we are so incredibly grateful for our experience. The attention to detail is meticulously executed in order for you to truly enjoy each other’s company.
Being a frequent Korean bbq goer, the timing and pace of the protein servings were attentive and perfect. I unknowingly realized this time around neither myself or my partner would do the cooking which served as a surprise to me. (I also noticed each server had on a unique ring what a nice touch!)
The dishes through taste and texture were exquisite, delicate and crafted with precision.
And the playlist set an intimate mood which stood out to us as well. My highlights aside from everything on the menu was definitely the shrimp skewer, A5 Waygu (add a pinch of salt and enjoy alone), and the matcha bingsoo. So much that I was transcended to my previous travels eating bingsoo elsewhere internationally.
We will definitely be back again, thank you Takja team🫰🏽
An Exceptional Anniversary Experience at Takja!
My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Takja, and it was a truly delightful experience. We opted for the han-sang tasting menu, and every course was excellent.
The ingredients were incredibly fresh—we were particularly impressed with the tuna and shrimp from the seafood platter. We paired this with makgeolli, and the combination perfectly complemented the flavors of the Korean alcohol.
While the pork was a standard part of the menu, we chose to upgrade to the Wagyu, which did not disappoint. Every cut of meat was high quality, but the Wagyu and the galbi were our clear favorites. The side dishes were simple yet refined; I especially enjoyed pairing the jalapeño pickles with fresh vegetables for the perfect ssam. To round out the meal, the mushroom rice was delicious, and the matcha bingsoo was the perfect way to finish the course.
The staff were incredibly friendly and respectful, and I really appreciated that they took note of our anniversary celebration.
My only small critique is the use of plastic chopsticks. For an upscale establishment with such high-quality food and service, the plastic chopsticks felt out of place. It would be a wonderful upgrade to switch to metal or high-quality wooden chopsticks to better match the restaurant's reputation and the elegance of the dining experience.
